2020.08.14 18:48 DoomCorp2020 The best Team and Factions (personal opinion)

What I like about this game, is the balance among heroes. There is always an 'anti' on every hero you encounter. Also, what I love about this game is the strategy and preparations for you to level up and complete certain stages and tasks. Here is my personal opinions on the best Factions and teams for you to step up among others.
Faction: Martial, Tech and Dark.
Teams: Martial: Irithel, Zilong, Akai, Hanabi and Clint
Irithel is one of the best damage dealer of all damage dealer heroes. She can knock out enemies so eaily with her ultimate and with the use of her vessel. Akai makes the best tank for martial squad since he can lend his teammates some armor in the beginning of the game. Zilong on the other hand, is the best fighter there is (personal thought) since he has massive atack speed and can pull the enemies on the back and can deal massive damage as well. Hanabi's vessel is veey useful for this squad since she has this agility buff for the entire team. And Clint can help Irithel kill enemies due to his Super Skill.
Tech: Lolita, Lesley, Saber, Angela, X.Borg
Lolita makes the best tank for this squad due to her massive armor from her vessel and can also stun and even cancel enemy's skills. She can also protect her backline teammates with the use of her shield that can absorb ranged atacks. Lesley's passive, vessel and ultimate skill can 'one hit' an enemy which really makes her the most powerful tech hero. Saber also deals massive damage on the enemy backline since his a jumper. With his CC skill used at the right time, he can even counter enemy's ultimate. Angela is the best support for me. When she has a maxed vessel, you can definitely win since she only requires 700 points of energy to cast her ultimate. Max vessel Angela plus max vessel Lolita would be the best partner to easily win any game. X borg is the sacrificial lamb for this team, especially when there are jumpers on the enemy's team. He can stop enemies from jumping to your backline which gives you an advantage for your Lesley to take aim to the enemy backline.
Dark: Alice, Vexanna, Argus, Moscov, Karina
Alice is one of the best damage dealers. Her vessel grants her spell lifesteal and massive damage according to the number of enemies. She is a complete package; she can stun, deal massive damage and can even heal herself. Vexana is also the best damage dealer, it is because of her ultimate skill that can reincarnate the soul of the enemy and fight with her 'til death. More ultimate casted to the enemies, the more illutions she gets that can sometimes turn the game around, and make you win. Argus's passive skill is his best skill that made hin the best tank for dark faction. When receiving a fatal blow, he can then turn into a "fallen angel" form that forbids him from dying. Also, his skill grants him massive lifesteal that can sometimes save him from dying after his passive skill ran out. Moscov is also very useful, because of his ultimate skill that can cancel enemy's skills (if casted at the right moment). He is also very useful on guild boss because his ultimate can cancel the skill of the boss. Karina is also very useful because of the massive damage and lifesteal (if she was able to slain an enemy with her ultimate skill) her ultimate has. Also, if she successfully slain an enemy with her ultimate, her energy can fillup so fast that in just a second, she can cast her ultimate skill again. She has also an invincibility skill, during which, she cannot be harmed by any physical attacks.
Additional:
Lunox is one of the best heroes there is. With her massive support skills, such as healing skills can give you an advantage over you enemy. After dying, she can then turn into a twilight orb that heals continuously in a period of time and then reincarnate and fight once more.
Maxed out Yu Zhong is also very useful since his passive grants him a dragon scale effect, on which the damage he receives can be reflected back 100% damage to the damage dealer, which is very useful if he is placed in front of the line.
That's it for my entry, I hope not only to win the prize, but also give my personal insights about this game's strategy and process. BTW, Congrats MLA on your 1st Anniversary. Hope you will improve the gameplay and experience of this game. Definitely one of the best games in the play store and app store. One thing though, can you add Dyrroth in the game. His skills can give more challenge to this game. Thanks and more power MLA

2020.08.09 02:30 YamahaRN Best lore characters for 2v2, 3v3, and free for all.

No Titans, Old Gods, Deathwing, Sha, and BFA Sylvanas. Alternate draenor characters are welcome. Go into detail what would make these combinations unstoppable in the arena. They are all fighting on neutral ground. That means no scenarios like Arthas at Light’s Hope. Lei Shen would not be at the Throne of Thunder. Raid bosses would not have their abilities that are taken from the raid settings such As Azshara and her additional minions. Just the boss themselves.
1st answer) 2v2 and 3v3 Traditional alignments only and still alive. Meaning if they were enemies in lore then they can’t be partners.
2nd answer) 2v2 and 3v3 No alignment rules and regardless if they’re already dead. Teams like a reunion of the Argus Triumvirate of Velen, Archimonde, and Kil’jaeden.
3rd answer) Free for all, if all the current living wow characters were thrown into an arena in a fight to the death who would win.
4th answer) Free for all, if all Warcraft universe lore characters were thrown into the arena, who would truly be the last champion standing.

2020.08.08 18:45 CosmicPennyworth CMV: If a thing needs to be "in the right hands," it shouldn't exist at all.

TL;DR

The existence of empires, AI, and guns have all been justified with the argument that "They are good, as long as they're in the right hands." There is no way to control whether or not such things are in the right hands. So they shouldn't exist.
Let me know of whatever flaws you find in this line of thinking!

Empires

Historian Stephen Howe writes [1], "At least some of the great modern empires – the British, French, Austro-Hungarian, Russian, and even the Ottoman – have virtues that have been too readily forgotten. They provided stability, security, and legal order for their subjects. They constrained, and at their best, tried to transcend, the potentially savage ethnic or religious antagonisms among the peoples. And the aristocracies which ruled most of them were often far more liberal, humane, and cosmopolitan than their supposedly ever more democratic successors."
Political rhetoricians have used the type of argument shown above to justify the existence of empires throughout history. Someone with this view would say that it's not being an empire that's bad -- rather, it is being a "bad" empire that is bad. On the other hand, a "good" empire, whose leaders have both the innate ability and the motivation to spread things like stability, security, and order, is justified in its acquisition of power. In fact, it may even have the responsibility to accumulate power and resources so that it can actualize its "good" values. This is especially true, someone might say, when we find that these values are absent in those who hold power and resources currently. Among countless injustices, historical and present, this type of argument has been used to justify white supremacy - see "The White Man's Burden." [2]
This argument fails, because no one is able to hold an emperor accountable. No one can check in with them and say, "Are you doing a good job of this? Are you making the world better? No, it looks like you aren't. Let's go ahead and make someone else the emperor then. Okay sweetie? Alright." No one can do this, because the very job they are being assessed for is the one that grants someone the hiring/firing power. There are no good empires because there is never a guarantee of a good emperor.

AI

American tech company Clearview AI develops facial recognition software for the purpose of criminal investigation. The following is an excerpt from an interview with the company's co-founder and CEO, Hoan Ton-That. [3]
Hoan Ton-That has just assured the interviewer that the facial recognition technology will not be used to overpolice minority communities.
Interviewer: ...That's your intent. That's the intent of your company today. But the technology is what the technology is. If someone else had access to this tool, couldn't it be used in a different way?
Ton-That: Yeah, that's why we have a lot of policies in place. But also, technology is not done for its own sake. It's always run by people, right? We have a company. We have very strong beliefs in how it should be used and so does the society. We don't want to have anything that is too conflicting, and we don't want to create a world that we don't want to live in personally. So yeah, maybe someone else could build something similar, and use it- misuse it for other things, but that's not what we're gonna do.
The root of Ton-That's answer is that, while facial recognition technology could be dangerous, and could be used for oppression, his company has integrity and people's best interests at heart. In other words, he is asking us to take him at his word that the technology is in good hands.
Funny enough, Ton-That has thoroughly documented ties to white supremacist hate groups. [4]
Still, even if we didn't have this information about him, we ought to raise an eyebrow at his insistence that we trust him. A corporation has to provide a return for its shareholders. If a predicament arises where the ethical choice comes into conflict with the profitable one, we can figure a business will skew toward what is profitable. We have to apply the same suspicion to a government or even a lone hacker. We simply have no way of knowing how altruistic their true intentions are. When the time comes that we discover the truth, it may be too late.
UK-based AI company DeepMind has stated that it aims in the long-term to create an artificial mind that can accomplish any task that a human mind can. [5] Philosopher Nick Bostrom arguse that an AI with human-level general intelligence is bound to become drastically more intelligent than a human by improving itself. Consequentially, it would go out of control and subjugate the human race. [6] DeepMind acknowledges that these concerns are legitimate, and that AI Safety is handled by their ethics board. [5] However, they have not disclosed who is on this ethics board. If they were, miraculously, to develop artificial general intelligence, and Nick Bostrom's argument were correct, then it would be up to this mysterious committe to decide the priorities of humankind's overlord.
Grandiose as this picture is, DeepMind also develops a lot of AI software that applies to the immediate present. This work too, is overseen by an ethics team. [7] The company has an interest in maintaining good PR, but we have no other way to keep the company or its ethics team accountable for their decisions.

Guns

A possible approach to this "right hands" predicament is putting the item in question into everyone's hands. If the power is too great for one person to wield, then let everyone hold that power equally.
This approach appears in the gun politics debate in the US. While gun control advocates argue that fewer guns available to the public means less crime and death imposed on innocent people, advocates for gun availability argue that guns are necessary for self-defense against criminals and tyrannical government. Popular slogans among gun rights supporters are "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," and "Guns don't kill people; people kill people."
The gun rights supporter's argument here is that people will naturally try to rob and hurt one another, so all we can do is keep everyone on the same playing field by democratizing the presence of guns. "Bad guys" like criminals and corrupt governments already have guns, so "Good" guys should have them as well. This way, everyone has the same capacity for violence as everyone else.
This point only makes sense given the assumption that bad guys do, in fact, already have guns. Alternatively, people would also share a similar capacity for violence in a world where no one had a gun. The playing field would be level in this scenario too. So the two conditions might be considered the same.
However, they are not the same. Abundant international data show that people are safer in conditions where there are fewer guns overall. [8] Findings include:
The question of how guns should be treated in the US today is less relevant to my point than the following. Rather then guns being in the "right hands," it would be better if they never existed at all.
When both the "good guy" and the "bad guy" have a gun, the result is not peace. At best, it is a standoff, at worst, it is an arms race. [9]

In general

These three examples are the best I can think of to explain myself, but they capture my more general belief that, if something has to be "in the right hands," then it shouldn't exist at all. I'm sure the paragraphs above have many logical/rhetorical errors that show flaws in my thinking. I also know that this view is very broad, maybe lacks nuance, and maybe has weird implications. Let me know if/how I could change my thinking about this subject. Cheers, thanks for reading this far.

2020.08.06 01:09 Miggy070498 Close Encounters - A Guide to Zhask

Contact - A little bit about me
Hello everyone. I forgot which season I've started playing but I think it's the one where we got the Vexana skin with the pointy nipples. Been posting memes here on this subreddit for months now and I decided to change things up. I wanna provide my fellow ML players some tips and tricks on how to play certain heroes I have a firm grasp on. In this guide, I'll be helping you master the local resident of Area 51, Zhask.
Disclaimer: I am not a pro but I am very aware of how Zhask operates.
Arrival - Backstory (Also fixed some of the grammatical errors)
A great civilization rose out of the ashes of history but the aggressive nature of the Kastiyans have persisted to the present. Kastiyans use their time space warping and psionic mind abilities to vanquish weaker races at their pleasure. After countless generations of evolution, the Kastiyans have been able to mentally manipulate the insect spirit "Domorey"or the "Nightmaric Spawn" as they call it in the their language. This immortal spirit is able to appear anywhere, with enough power to break through any known physical or magical barriers. After the Kastiyans brought her back to their home planet, they inscribed her spirit into an almighty staff. This staff is now wielded by the King of the Kastiyans, Zhask, who had already used it to invade numerous worlds. Through invasion, the Kastiyans have been able to enslave the minds of the inhabitants and plunder all their resources. Zhask has left his 'Plane Dominator' signature on the many worlds that he has scourged. One of the many spirits he sent out to scout for ripe worlds was entrapped by the Saintly Angel Argus. However, after Argus was downcasted, the spirit escaped and re-established the link with the motherbrood. This in turn made Zhask aware of the Land of Dawn. Seeing the vast resources that are ripe for the plunder, Zhask has landed upon the fabled land, to do what he does best: dominate, kill and reap.
Source: https://mobile-legends.fandom.com/wiki/Zhask/Story
Mars Attacks! - Skill Descriptions
Decimation (Passive) - Whenever Zhask dies, he explodes and deals true damage. The amount of said damage is 500 + 100% of total Magic Power.
Nightmaric Spawn (Skill 1) - Cast this skill to summon a spawn with the following abilities: * will shoot down anything within its range with an epic alien laserbeam * for every 2 basic attacks from the spawn, the next attack will be continuous and slow down its target * enjoys 70% of Zhask's attributes
The spawn will disappear if: * Zhask dies or if he is too far away * it receives too much damage or * Zhask summons another spawn
Mind Eater (Skill 2) - Zhask uses his staff to blast targets with a laserbeam of his own. This beam has 370 + 100% of Magic Power points of Magic Damage. When Zhask has his spawn out (no dirty thoughts!) when using this skill, it also spits out a beam. Whenever these two hit the same target, it becomes stunned for 0.5 s.
Hive Clones (Skill 3) - Zhask has a lot of pent up emotions. So, his psychiatrist suggests that he should open himself up....... literally and releases a swarm of Nightmaric Clones in a certain direction. These clones will explode and deal 140 + 50% of Magic Power points of Magic Damage to enemies in contact. It also slows them down by 80%. Lasts 1s. If they do not find a target, they'll stay on the ground for a short period of time, waiting for their next prey.
Dominator's Descent (Ultimate) - Zhask becomes a huge D(amager) and greatly enhances his skills. If their is a normal spawn, he will go to that spawn and then enhance himself. The improved spawn also deals basic attacks the same way a regular one would. Use skill again to come out of your spawn.
Skill 1 - Spawn relocates itself. (Works both on and off the spawn)
Skill 2 - The spawn releases a BIG laserbeam that immediately stuns all targets and inflicts 640 +180% Total Magic Power points of Magic Damage. (Works both on and off the spawn)
Skill 3 - The spawn releases a bigger swarm of clones. (Only works on the spawn)
Predator - Item Builds, Battle Spells, Emblem Sets
This part is completely subjective. People have different play styles, build and item preferences. This is just the ones I used to win matches.
For the emblem, choose Mage and spend all your points on Magic Power (see his skills to find out why). Choose the first talent, Mystery Shop. Allows you to buy items at a 10% discount. Just as small as the discounts Moonton gives for its skins.
For battle spells, go for flicker for instant escapes (works great with ultimate since you can relocate your enhanced spawn with first skill) or inspire for attack speed boost. Just make sure to activate it before mounting the spawn for the ultimate. (You can not use battle spells while in the enhanced spawn)
For build, here's what I recommend:
  • Demon Shoes - if you like to consume mana like I do or...
  • Swift Boots - for additional attack speed. Works great with the spawn's passive.
  • Feather of Heaven - additional attack speed plus its passive enhances basic attack by dealing 40% of Magic Attack as Magic Damage
  • Fleeting Time - get a kill or assist and your ultimate's cooldown reduces by 30%. More kills = more big D(amagers)
  • Holy Crystal - More Magic Power and scales magic attack
  • Divine Glaive - Sweet Magic Penetration
  • Genius Wand - MORE PENETRATION.
Other commonly used items:
These items come in handy depending on the enemy composition.
Windtalker - fastest attack speed boost in the West. Really great for spawn's passive, normal and enhanced.
Winter Truncheon - Aldous heading towards you to smash your alien butt into the ground? Use this and freeze yourself for a few seconds to give your teammates time to reach you. (Or be like me and still die because my team is too busy arguing with themselves).
Necklace of Durance - the anti-heal item. Works great against thicc Latinas, giant ass dragons, elf kings and other regen freaks in the game.
Twilight Armor + Rose Gold Meteor (secret weapon) - Use this item combo when you're going against heavy basic attack heroes like Lesley or Aldous (or both). TA prevents basic attacks from going over 900 points worth of damage while Rose Gold activates a shield when you are below a certain HP level, giving you enough time to make your next move.
War of the Worlds - Gameplay
There are two ways to play Zhask (for me, anyways): Independence Day or Annihilation
Independence Day (The sidelane seer) a.k.a the conservative way
This is how I usually play Zhask. Go to a side lane (preferably opposite turtle lane so you won't be disturbed too much when the turtle's up) and clear waves. Zhask is SO FAST in clearing waves so don't take that for granted. Get crab and repeat. If you can, take the Lithowanderer (little plant creature near mid).
If there are enemies, poke them with your skills. When you take down a turret, check map if you can still push your luck and take another tower down. If you feel enemies are coming to you, leave and go to other lanes to see if you can push. Rinse and repeat.
In teamfights, ALWAYS ENGAGE LAST so enemies can exhaust their skills and you can take advantage. NEVER PUT YOUR SPAWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A TEAMFIGHT. If you do, chances are you might go ult and get yourself stuck in an unwanted pain orgy and kill your enhanced spawn immediately.
When ulting, use the enhanced skill 3 to block paths. (Don't be lazy and actually point the skill instead of autopressing it :/ ) That's why Zhask works well in fighting in a small area (near buffs, jungle etc). Use skill 2 to stun multiples enemies. If you have your core items, you can easily melt everyone in the fight. If enemies escape, get off the spawn and use your skill 1 to resummon the spawn near them to finish off the escapees. (Works well if you have flicker).
Keep this up until Victory!
Annihilation (The Invader) a.k.a the aggressive way
This method I rarely use because I need a solid support and/or tank to do it lol. Works best if your tank has no MM to support (again, highly unlikely)
Go midlane with your buddy and clear waves ASAP. Get the lithowanderer and blue buff (assuming that you don't have a moaning assassin). Roam around the map. Clear the waves BEFORE they pass their tower. Have your partner be a guard as you clear. Corner your enemy in their towers with the help of whoever is assigned to the lane.
PRIORITIZE LEVELLING UP FASTER THAN ANYONE.
Similar tactics from Independence Day can be done i.e. come last in teamfights, block the way with enhanced 3rd skill etc.
Once you're fed, change your role and be an assassin. Take down squishies by either hiding in bushes and ulting or placing the spawn behind the enemy lines and summon the mighty one.
Repeat until you gain a star. :)
Oblivion - Tips and Tricks
  • Order of Skill Upgrade - Prioritize 1 and 2 and upgrade ult when you can. Hive clones is least priority (Most of his damage comes from the spawn and lasers anyway)
  • Never take the spawn + mind eater stun combo lightly. They can insta kill some enemies when you are fed well. You can also use it to slow enemies when escaping.
  • Again, never place a spawn in the middle of a teamfight to avoid premature detoriation. Place it outside and aim the enhanced second skill to maximize number of enemies stunned.
  • Place spawns in bushes when you are taking down a turret. The spawn will always see an enemy close by. If it does see one, check the map to see if you can engage. You can also use skill 3 to check bushes as well.
  • If you are going Independence Day, there is actually a "sweet spot" where you can place the spawn so it can help you farm the crab AND clear the wave! Check it out and experiment in A.I. or Ranked (if you are the spawn of the devil)
  • Remember: The spawn can take enemy skill damage. Lesley ulting you while you're in low health? Block her way with the spawn. Franco wants to hook you up with his friends? Here, have a small extra terrestrial. Hayabusa shadow punching you in the alien balls? Phone home and have it take damage with you.
  • If enemy is solo taking down a turret, hide in the nearest bush and place your spawn far behind them rather than near them. That way when you ult, your attacks can still reach them unlike if you summon the spawn next to them.
At the World's End - Message from me
If you reached this part, thank you for taking the time to read all my tips and tricks (and everything else in between). This subreddit means a lot to me and I'm glad I could give a little something back to it. So what you guys think? Are y'all ready to invade the enemies and take over their base? Lemme know how you have been progressing with Zhask.
Once again, thank y'all and good luck! :)

2020.07.29 16:38 dedpotatos [EVENT] Somaliland University of Technology can into space?

Somaliland University of Technology, with funding from the government of Somaliland, has begun work on Somaliland's first cubesat research satellite, to be named Somalisat-1. This project will make Somaliland the 12th nation in Africa to operate a satellite in orbit, albeit a very small one.

Cubesat is a low cost commercial satellite standard with a high degree of customisability due to extensive use of commercial off the shelf components. They are also a relatively undifficult form of satellite to engineer, with vast amounts of open source information on design and construction available. Somaliland University of Technology has chosen to construct a 6U cubesat, operating at an orbit of 519km. This configuration should provide a satellite that lasts for an estimated 6-8 years, and will orbit the planet every 90 minutes, or 16 times per day, collecting data for researchers.

Somalisat-1 will serve as an earth observation satellite, designed to take standard and infrared images of Somaliland and its surrounding waters, for transmission back to Earth. Whilst the imagery from Somalisat-1 will not be as detailed as a full sized satellite, it will be accurate enough to detect changes in Somaliland's environment over a span of time. Somalisat-1 will hopefully also be detailed enough to locate vessels in the Gulf of Aden, which can be checked against commercial AIS tracking software, and allow port officials to direct patrol ships to investigate vessels of interest. However the 90minute long orbit time makes it less effective in this role than perhaps would be desired.

The core of the satellite will consist of EXA ICEPS 'brain', loaded with a domestic mission program, a backup nickel-cadmium 25w battery , and the VHF/UHF full duplex transceiver. The core will be NEMEA protected to shield the brain against cosmic radiation over its lifespan.
To achieve imagery, Somalisat-1 will primarily make use of a Chameleon imager, a commercial cubesat camera module which can cover a 32km block of earth, and is calibrated to provide a spatial resolution of 9.6m, while orbiting at an altitude of 500km. Somalisat-1 will also carry an Argus-1000 infrared spectrometer for gathering information on emissions and pollution in Somaliland.
Power will be provided with an EXA BA0x 4 cell battery array, providing 22.2Whr. The battery array will be charged with a pair of EXA deployable 3panel 3G-30 solar arrays, providing a minimum of 24watts of energy in limited sunlight.
Attitude and direction control will be maintained by a BiSon64 solar sensor and a CubADCS 3-axis reaction wheel system. This will allow the cubesat to remain in a stable orbit, and effectively de-orbit the satellite when it reaches the end of its usable life.

In order to speak to earth, Somalisat-1 will be fitted with an ISIS deployable crossed dipole antenna system which will be linked with the transceiver in the core. This system is capable of simultaneous UHF and VHF signals, and thus can down-link and up-link at the same time.
A ground station will be set up in Abaarso, north-west of the capital, in order to collect the satellite data. The ground station equipment will cost €87,500 and will consist of a ground transceiver, a steerable antenna array, and ground computer systems. operational control software will be procured from Solenix, with their Elveti mission control system, at a cost of €20,000 per annum. Due to the belief that academic research should always be freely available, information collected from Somalisat-1 will be openly available to all universities and research facilities in Somaliland, and requestable by partnered international institutes.

A total of two Somalisat type cubesats will be built, with the second acting as a university based teaching tool, or as backup should the launch of Somalisat-1 go awry. The total material cost of this project will be €668,636, and is expected to take just under a year to put together, mainly due to the time requirements involved in waiting for components to be built and delivered, with the longest waiting time being 26 weeks for the Chameleon imagers, before the satellites can be constructed, tested, and calibrated. This is a research project on the ground as much as it will be a research project in space, and so each step will be a learning experience for the engineers on the project.
Upon completion of the cubesats, a satellite carrier must be selected to get Somalisat-1 into orbit, as Somaliland has no domestic rocket program. It has been initially estimated that this stage will cost approximately $350,000. 2020.07.13 15:13 burningshinobi Daily DD - Shevla

2020.07.02 05:41 alkiller77 RWBY RE Fall-R3aper

So i figured I'd throw my own hat into the ring here. This here is my own rewrite story. I'll just start with the fact that I wrote this, not with the intention of writing something better than RWBY, but just writing a story that had some stuff I wish happened, and I had a ton of fun while writing it. It did start to evolve into me noticing things that maybe could have been executed better, or ideas that should have been explored more. I do also borrow ideas in Volumes 1-3 from other rewrites(IE: Celtic Phoenix and UnicornofWar), but even then I try to make them different where I can.
Here's the link to my FF account where you can find all 6 volumes(Which I did transfer this fic over from another site I wrote it on): https://www.fanfiction.net12948893/
There's likely loose grammar errors scattered about, I sort of still read through the chapters every now and then, and I find more to edit every time. It makes me question my English degree every time I find one of these grammar errors.
Technicalities aside, I suppose I can run through every change to the story I made. I might miss some since this is 6 entire Volumes worth of changes I'm recounting here.
Volume 1-
Volume 2
Volume 3
Volume 4
Volume 5
Volume 6
And that's the general run-down of RWBY RE's changes, the music in the show is referenced as where I'd imagine it playing, since that did help me better visualize how fights would pan out.
I'll admit, every now and then I do get some other ideas that I wish I did/explored, but I don't think I want to make a RE: RWBY RE. That title sounds very redundant.
I've planned out Volume 7, and I'm just waiting for the OST to drop to see if I can gleam anymore from that. I certainly hope this wall of text is read by at least someone and that they at least got some amusement from it. I do hope for some genuine criticisms I could take into mind as I work on Volume 7.(Apart from my obvious grammar mistakes that I'm cursed with constantly finding myself.)

2020.06.21 22:07 DenMan_PH Oaths: A tale of two brothers. 1.15

The tunnel was not dug with Drakon in mind, made painfully evident as the brothers found themselves shrinking ever more inward to keep moving through it.
The tunnel and its design were foreign to both the Drakon and Sol. Had either of their homes been in the industry of mining, they might have drawn a connection to the packed dirt and stone walls, clearly dug purposefully. As well as the wooden support beams that kept the roof from collapsing that the brothers had to continuously duck under.
They were on edge, not afraid, thanks to the work of the Oath. But none of them had been beneath the earth before, and the experience left them uneasy, compounded by the sense they were walking into a trap. What else could it be? But there was nowhere else to go but forward. Going back was not an option.
They squinted in the darkness, only able to find their way due the linear nature of the tunnel, stumbling forward as they did so.
Then the screams began.
It was as if someone had suddenly turned on the sound for them to hear, or if they'd crossed some threshold sound could not pass.
They were pleas, shouts of pain, and if one listened, weeping.
The three increased their pace, but as they moved forward, it was as if suddenly the sound was coming from behind them.
Argus spoke before they could get themselves turned around, "Keep going forward, it must be a trick." he grimaced, hoping he was right.
Eventually, the tunnel brought them to a door, a flimsy wooden thing, shoddily made.
The tunnel continued past it, but before they could decide on whether to keep going or to investigate the door, a voice spoke out from behind it.
"Do come in." its guttural and gravelly voice seeped from the spaces in between the door’s boards.
A shout of pain echoed down the tunnel.
Argus reared up and kicked down the door, pointing his sword forward. "Where are they?" he steeled himself, preparing for some assault on his mind or charming effect.
None came, an undead sat at a rickety desk behind the door.
A Zombie, for it, did not have the unique blue-glowing eyes of a wight. It appeared to be in the middle of paperwork of all things, writing information down in a massive ledger with a leather cover.
"Well." The corpse, that of a middle aged woman with jade skin, smiled. "That was rude, but I suppose nothing particularly valuable was lost."
Argus hesitated, but then gave her a hard look. "Where are they?"
"Who? The prisoners?" She shrugged. "I'll tell you for a price."
Argus hesitated again, he wasn't sure what he'd been expecting. But an attempt to barter hadn't been it.
Another cry of pain, but now a different voice than the last one. This one was masculine and vaguely familiar.
"What is the price?"
"Tell me where your tribe is located." She met his eyes as she spoke the words, but dipped her quill in ink well as she did so and went back to writing.
Argus blinked, his anger spiked in addition to his confusion. "Why would I… No."
The woman looked at him and shrugged, looking not at all disappointed. "Okay."
Argus blinked, his anger petered out. Leaving hardly anything but confusion. Before his eyes narrowed and he demanded. "Tell us where they are!"
"Tell me where your tribe is."
"No!"
And she shrugged again, continuing to work. Before looking up and asking. "You're about seven feet tall, yes?"
Argus was unbalanced, looking to his brother and Sol for clarification on what was happening but receiving none from his equally confused partners.
"I'll mark that as a yes, twins? The two of you?" She gestured between the two Drakon. "Hmm. Shame about the Oaths, hard to salvage those. But you're big, so Wights for you."
She turned her head to Sol, somehow looking down her nose at him despite being situation lower than him in her seat.
"Hate clerics," She murmured. "So much lost potential. Zombie for you then." She wrote a handful of notes down.
Argus began to shift back into ire and stabbed his sword forward. "Tell us where they are!"
She eyed him with annoyance, "Tell me where your tribe is."
His sword began to glow, a red heat from his Oath's Sun chased into the blade. The desk she was working on beginning to smoke as he pressed the weapon's point into it.
"I can make you tell me," he spoke with eyes that burned with fury.
She looked up at him, then laughed. In that same guttural, damaged voice. "What are you going to do? Kill me?"
She turned her eye to the sword, and her desk, and made a noise of vague approval as Argus sputtered, underlining a word he now had the angle to see as 'wight.'
Argus's eyes narrowed, "Yes."
She mimed an exaggerated look of fear, "Oh no, whatever will I do!" before rolling her rotting eyes with a snort.
He scowled if he couldn't threaten her..."Why?"
She looked at him, a raised brow. "Why?"
"Why do you wish to know where my tribe is?"
"So you do have a tribe? And it's close?"
He set his jaw and asked again. "Why?"
She hummed, resting her chin in her hand. "Drakon makes excellent undead, naturally armed and armored. After we kill you two, we'll have an ample supply of ideal wight bodies, or perhaps even some ghouls."
Again Argus was shocked, blinking at the woman, then suddenly preparing to strike her down for even thinking of the thing she described.
Another shout echoed down the hall, thankfully the same voice. But it was growing weaker.
Argus eyed the woman, then lifted his sword and held it above the book she was writing in.
"I'll burn the book."
She didn't freeze, but she looked up at him with more annoyance now, before sighing. "We'll find out after you're dead then. Just keep going down the tunnel you fools."
He scowled at her and then drove the now red blade into the book.
"Hey!" she shouted, standing. But the book quickly caught flame.
He turned and left the room, as the undead woman tried to put the book out as they left, continuing through the tunnel.
The unease of the two Drakon grew as they moved forward, the realization that their kind and specifically their tribe and family may be pursued for function as necromancer’s preferred foot soldiers haunted them.
Argus felt an urge to turn back and slay the undead woman, whatever the odd creature was. As she was clearly no normal zombie.
But his training and presumptions of how undead worked had been handily shattered between both this new woman and the other who called herself Dore and so chose not to act rashly.
They continued to push down the hallway and eventually came to a junction.
"So much for 'keep going down the tunnel.'" Argus grumbled, but frankly, he was somewhat relieved. It meant he could neatly categorize the undead woman as an enemy, which he had assumed, but not known.
"Let me try." Sol offered. Before raising his hands up, channeling his goddess's favor in the darkness. "My lady, please, quicken our stride. Give us now your light to guide."
Sol tensed, then grimaced, a frown that seemed to grow with small drops of sweat forming on his head. "Something is trying to stop me..." despite this claim, hardly a moment later an orb of pale yellow light appeared hovering above his head, it slowly grew from snowflake size to about the size of Sol's hand.
The orb traveled somewhat down the left path of the intersection before vanishing once more.
"I'll summon it once more if we need it." Sol began answering the unasked question of why it had vanished. "But it's too taxing to keep up while fighting through whatever they're using to try to stop it." He wiped his forehead. "Where we are is also making it difficult, below the earth is not the domain of stars, suns or moons."
Asgar and Argus nodded, only vaguely understanding what he meant, but they followed where the light had traveled. The sounds of the pained man still echoing out in impossible directions.
They traveled quickly and soon found a pair of undead guards barring their entry to a door.
For once, the craftsmanship of the door was not lackluster, though neither was it anything special. It did look like a poor fit to the entryway surrounding It. As if it and its frame had been lifted from where it was intended to be and placed here. In fact, Sol, who had a passing knowledge of carpentry, suspected this was precisely the case.
Asgar found himself in front of the zombies before either Sol or Argus could fire off a spell or cover the distance. And struck outward at the first one with his ax.
The zombie was bisected with ease that surprised him, and almost threw him off-balance.
As the second shambled forward, he bashed outward with the shield. Smashing the zombie into the wall, pulverizing flesh and bone as it slid down in a heap.
Argus blinked at his brother, who looked back at him with surprise.
It wasn't just a mental effect. The strength of his Oath felt real.
Asgar turned and kicked at the door, blasting a hole through it and hopping on one foot so as not to fall as he disentangled himself from the door.
Argus strode forward and opened the door. Stepping in as his brother- somewhat who was now slightly embarrassed over his fumble, followed him in.
Any childish embarrassment vanished as they looked into the room, for they were looking at a sacrificial chamber.
Where the underground complex they had been searching through had packed dirt and naturally occurring stone, the room they entered deviated from this, as the walls of the circular room were made with stone brick.
Inbedded in these stone walls were prison cells, guarded by heavy oaken doors and wooden frames.
In the center of the doors were square windows, bared by iron bars.
Looking through these, they could see the interior of the cells, from which both red-skinned and pale bark-covered faces looked outward.
In the center of the room sat a wooden pillar, from which manacles had been nailed into.
Manacles presently filled by a beaten and bloody human the brothers recognized, Singard, the thief who had stolen their money from them. And he was covered in dozens- maybe hundreds of small cuts across his body.
And surrounding him were a half dozen other humans.
If they were to type to be involved in fantastical stories, or even true ones, they'd have imagined the half dozen humans armed with daggers to be dressed in robes, with masks fashioned like those of skulls.
Instead, they looked normal. Albeit bloody from their work, wearing work aprons more appropriate for a butcher, rather than people sacrificing something to a deity.
The six humans turned to the brothers, looking at them with uncertainty.
"Who are you?" An overweight, balding man called.
Argus's eyes locked on a small mound of corpses off to the side, then the surrounding circle, flooded in a layer of blood.
Asgar looked at his brother and the raging inferno that was beginning to emanate off of him. He leaned into his own Oath. The weight of his mantle grounding him, so as to not be carried off by his brother's rage as he called out. "Drop your weapons and surrender now!"
The man sneered, walking forward. "Are you more criminals then? We’ll sacrifice you like the rest!”
His companions seemed more hesitant than the man before the trio, shooting glances at the invading half-naked, mud-covered Paladins and Cleric.
“Criminals?” Argus snarled. “What crime did they commit?”
“They rejected the love of our master! Virion is the only god that truly cares! The new god of justice! To reject him is to reject all that makes us more than animals!”
Asgar looked at his two companions, both were visibly simmering with rage. But whether Sol's wrath was his own, or if he was just being carried along with the wave of anger coming from his brother, Asgar was unsure.
The paladin reached out and put a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Argus, they could be charmed."
The aura from Argus sputtered, the wave of anger relenting somewhat as Argus ground out.
"As my brother said, surrender. Knives will not pierce our scales. You cannot stop us."
"Can't they?" a guttural voice spoke out from behind him.
The undead woman stepped out from the tunnel behind him, she smiled and spoke. "A shame you didn't go down the right tunnel, I had a party red for you."
As she spoke, more figures came out from the darkness behind them, a trio of scorched undead, a corpse missing its head, and a dozen others following behind her.
Argus eyed the suddenly far more confident humans on the other side of the room, then turned and appraised her. "I should have slain you," he spoke almost glumly.
She shrugged. "If it makes you feel any better, it wouldn't have made much of a difference. One less undead to fight you."
Argus sighed in relief. "You aren't the leader then."
She smiled back at him. "I didn't say that."
The balding man called out. "Snake! Call more of the risen and crush these intruders!"
The trio's concerns spiked at the name of 'snake.' But the woman replied to the balding man. "Why? You're here."
The man's eyes bulged. "You expect us to fight these monsters with only a dozen of the risen?"
She blinked at him, then looked to the cohort of undead following her. "Well, I suppose I could let these..." she turned and counted, with agonizing slowness in the standstill.
"...fifteen, help you." She scratched her rotting chin in thought, taking a small chunk of flesh away as she did, which she flicked away with an afterthought.
A woman from the human group squeaked out. "You didn't intend to help us from the start?"
"no, why would I?"
"But... you're on our side!"
The woman shrugged. "I don't need you to be alive to be on my side, and Father Elliot isn't here to reprimand me if I let you die."
The humans looked at each other, slightly anxious once more after seeing the blatant indifference by their supposed protector.
Argus turned his gaze back to them. "You can still surrender, These..." He pointed to the band of undead guarding the entryway but hesitated as he saw the two his brother had slain at the door rising once more.
The undead woman waved him off "No, go ahead. I just totally forgot about these ones."
Argus squinted, and he ground his teeth as he pushed his aura into the blade, causing it to glow visibly red with heat. "...These will not be able to stop us. and neither will you."
Humans looked at each other, and the balding man shouted at the Drakon. "We'll see!" then began with a rhythmic incantation."With this power, you've granted me to wield, by your will, my faith-"
Sol called out, "He's a cleric!"
As Sol spoke, the five other humans began their own chants.
Argus charged them, calling out to his brother. "Stop the undead!" as he danced forward and slashed down at the balding man.
Just as the strike was about to connect, a shield of ethereal light formed, repelling his glowing blade, before it suddenly rushed forward, floating in the air smashed into him, causing him to stumble back.
The female cleric who had spoken earlier finished her chant. "-a divine weapon!" suddenly a sword and ethereal match to the shield launched out from her palm as if she'd thrown it.
Argus ducked under the flying blade and smashed into the floating shield with his own, and with a grunt, began pushing it back.
Sol called out his own chant, ducking under another summoned spectral sword as he did. "Oh, My Goddess of Illumination! Bring these wretched souls a holy cremation!"
Three blasts towards the enemy clerics, two of which were absorbed by summoned shields, splattering against them like water.
But the third lanced through the throat of the young, pale-faced man. Who fell to the earth with a gurgle, causing the spectral sword he'd only just created to vanish with a vague popping sound.
A young woman beside him cried out in a grief-filled voice, "Adrian!" before turning at Sol and calling her shield to rush at him.
It smashed into his chest, throwing him to the ground.
He rolled to the side as the shield slammed down, pulling in air and beginning his chant again, throwing out another blast of three rays of heat and light at the defending clerics as he stumbled back to his feet.
"Duck!"
He dropped again as he heard Argus call to him, a sword slashing where he had been.
The blade pivoted mid-air and began to fly downwards on him before a shield blocked its passage towards its target, and Argus hefted the human to his feet, placing the man behind him.
"Asgar?" The Drakon protecting Sol called.
"I'm fine." was the answer, paired with a zombie being hurled through the air at one of the enemy clerics.
The zombies had slammed into Asgar like a tide and had been broken by him.
By using his Oath to avoid being dragged into the raging certainty of his brother's, he had found the ability to ground himself in a way both literal and mental.
What's more, unlike before, he allowed the full heat of his brother's sun to sear him. And now his ax glowed with a terrible warmth, aided by his now increased strength.
He was scything through the undead.
The undead woman audibly mused as he bodily flung another undead at the clerics. "I really hope I'm able to have the wight keep the Oath," she shouted over the din of combat to the rampaging drake.
"Hey! What's your Oath?" By way of reply, yet another undead was hurled, this time at her.
She deftly weaved out of the way, with an ease that should have been impossible for the shambling undead she appeared to be.
Asgar noted with keen interest that none of the undead grappling and grabbing at him were armed, and although he clearly recognized some of the bodies he was now fighting, when he struck them or threw them, they stayed down.
He called out, "Don't trust the undead to stay down!" before ducking under a flying spectral sword, which quickly turned mid-air and shot at his brother as he called out a warning.
It clashed into Argus's shield, as he parried another sword with his own.
He and Sol had been pushed back by the two spectral swords now harassing them, but the shields we're too busy defending the enemy clerics. The clerics of Virion were under a constant barrage by the cleric of Soltris.
Sol was pouring out furious storms of heat and rage out at them, as soon as a chant was finished, a new one would begin. And despite their numbers, the clerics found themselves tiring under the assault and the power allocated to them quickly running out.
While older than him, these clerics were new to their faith. Had he taken the time to think of it, he would have been impressed with the skill and power they wielded.
He didn't have time to think of it, however, just quickly chanting to and pulling from his much deeper well of divine favor and throwing out rays of flame to hold them down.
He knew that they would likely not be able to outlast them, as the constructs they were using had to be demanding a ridiculous amount of power.
Between chants, he spoke at a whisper so that only the paladin shielding him could hear.
"I think I can outlast them."
Argus nodded, knocked another spectral blade away as he dueled the other.
The zombies surrounding Asgar retreated, forming a circle around him as he surveyed them.
Despite the swarm attack, he surveyed himself and found no major wounds, some bent scales perhaps.
But no blood was drawn.
He looked at the still prone and unmoving form of the undead.
There were seven all together, three thrown like weapons as they tried to grapple and drag him down, and another four laid low by his ax.
He could not help but note that not a single one of them had been armed.
He looked at the zombified woman, who hummed softly and only vaguely paying attention to him. More focused and the continuing fight between sis brother and Sol as well as the clerics supposedly on her side.
A fight his companions we're winning if the way Sol and Argus were slowly closing the distance and pushing the clerics into a wall was anything to go by.
Asgar turned to the woman, "You're going to let them die." it wasn't a question.
She turned, before nodding her head with a smile. "If there's anyone who'll let me make undead clerics, it'll be Virion. And from what little I know of him, he may even thank me for it." She shrugged. "Being undead has many benefits."
Asgar looked down at the woman, with mounting disgust, but also fear, despite the Oaths.
She did not act as if she was in any danger, and he dearly hoped she was wrong.
He threw himself at her, ax cleaving forward, and almost stopped himself when he saw her reaction.
Which was to do nothing. She looked at him with idle interest and a smirk, then jutted her chin forward, as if inviting him.
He took the invitation, despite the unease and sense he was walking into a trap.
Easily as anything else, her head toppled off her shoulders, before rolling to a stop beside his feet.
Yet her body did not fall with it, and before he could react, another voice spoke, different yet the same.
"A shame, I kind of liked that one."
The undead beside the headless corpse began to speak, the body of an elven-kin man straightening upward, going from a hunched, shambling thing, to a relaxed but commanding stance.
"Oh, this one is nice and tall, I should use these ones more often."
Asgar looked at her, now equals in height. Off-balanced as his brother had been by the woman...or creature, he now dubbed in his mind.
She turned to him, "Alright, you can help with Elliot’s toys now, I've seen what I wanted too."
The circle of the undead around him opened, funneling him towards the clerics, who had not yet noticed.
He bolted through it. He could not handle whatever this dread creature was.
And despite it being what she wanted, he needed the support of his sibling and friend if he had any chance of taking her on.
He smashed into the first cleric, a young woman, who only barely noticed him before the impact crushed her into the wall.
An ethereal shield vanished, and as it did, a ray of flame burnt a hole through the balding man's head, causing yet another to fall.
"Surrender! You are betrayed!" Asgar called before any more slaughter could continue.
his brother and Sol stopped their assault. The clerics froze just as the voice called out from behind him. "That's cheating!"
He ignored it. "That thing will not help you! It wishes to make undead servants of you! Drop your weapons and cease your spells!"
The group of three remaining humans cowered before the far too close Drakon.
"But I wanted to see more!" an annoyed voice called from behind him.
If anything, this is what stirred the humans to surrender, dropping their daggers and dispelling the two swords and shields to vanish like mist in the air.
The two drakon and Sol turned towards the group of undead, weapons, and spells at the ready.
"What is going on, Asgar?" his brother called.
"It wanted us to kill the clerics, so it could claim control over them!"
Argus twirled his sword, looking at the three remaining cowering clerics that he had to fight down a seething disgust for, before turning to look at the undead thing. Now wearing an elven body.
"Why?"
She sighed. "I suppose I'll have to kill them now." She glared at three clerics, who, like everyone else in the room at this point besides herself, were incredibly confused about what was going on.
She looked to Sol, then Argus and Asgar, before finally settling her sight on the barely conscious form of Singard of all things, who seemed to be fighting to both pay attention, and stay awake.
"What, are you asking me to monologue?" she asked no one in particular.
Asgar and Argus shared a look, quite sure that this entity was far past sane, while Sol eyed the bodies he'd scorched, and mentally chastised himself for not making ash of them, as he was sure they wouldn't be able to be used as undead if made so.
Singard, seemingly invited to speak by making eye contact with the corpse, was the one to speak, with a voice hoarse and quiet. "...I wouldn't mind it."

2020.06.11 07:42 DenMan_PH Oaths: A tale of two brothers. 1.14

Tracking down the caravan and its captors was a far simpler affair than tracking the caravan to the town of Dale had been.
The group, under the leadership of Father Elliot had not, or was not, taking the road. The scarcity of the populous did not leave opposition. Tracking the most recent series of footprints from the town guided the brothers to what was clearly a new trail. One that diverged into the forest from the road that cut through Dale.
Their attention was held fully by their hunt, so they hadn’t seen what Sol had. A pillar of black smoke stained the sky. It was growing ever smaller as they moved farther away from the town. Eventually, the smoke vanished entirely, hidden by the treeline.
But they kept their eyes to the front. Father Elliot was expected to be returning with the bulk of his, supposedly enthralled servants- supposedly. Even now, they were not entirely sure that the undead woman had spoken truthfully.
Even if they felt sure of it, being charmed once and discovering it tended to make one prone to doubt even the most certain of facts.
But running into him halfway to their destination could spell disaster.
Sol was quieter than not at first, but the brothers had assigned his behavior to anxiety. An anxiousness they felt they should be feeling themselves, as they were unsure of where exactly these tracks would lead them. And this should obviously worry them, and indeed, it did concern them.
They were worried not just for the destination, but the state of the caravan. If Dore had spoken truthfully, then the guards of the caravan and its caravaneers could be under the sacrificial blade at this very moment. This should also have left them anxious.
And yet they weren't, yes they were worried, but the anxiety didn't seem to find any purchase upon their psyches.
Instead, they were filled with incredible energy and motivation.
If they had every now and then felt a thrum from their oaths. A feeling they had felt when battling the orcs they suspected would cause havoc.
And again, much quieter when they had been in Riverstead helping people with casual duties and chores.
In fact, a soft thrum had been going through them, like a small vibration since they took their oaths and left home, though they could hardly have noticed it at times.
But the feeling they now experienced was different.
This was a song, or perhaps, a psalm. The experience was almost spiritual to the brothers.
Argus had a feeling of warmth that grew into an almost searing heat. It wasn’t painful but the intensity of it would have been uncomfortable for most. Instead, he found a strange sense of focus through it, pushing back thoughts of dread as the light pushes back the darkness.
For Asgar, he felt a weight so great it was nearly crushing, his Mantle growing ever heavier with each step. And yet, with each step, he felt stronger.
And yet, another discovery of their Oaths was made, for the feeling reached outward into an aura.
Asgar felt the clarity of Argus's Sun, and so too were his doubts banished.
And Argus felt the weight of Asgar's Mantle, and so he too felt stronger with every step.
But the effect of these twin auras was most potent on their human companion. As they walked, his back straightened, his mind cleared, the issues that had been plaguing him were not dealt with, no. But they were put aside for a time.
"What is this?" Sol called to the brothers. "What's happening?"
"Our Oaths," Argus spoke as a way of reply.
"I don't understand."
"Neither do I," Argus answered, but shrugged. "But they are what's doing this."
"Why?"
"I think because we needed it. Or will need it."
A walk turned into a march, they were not overjoyed, or even happy. But there was work to do, something more substantial than them, and so they moved forward.
They traveled not on the trail itself, but beside it. It made for rougher travel but helped ensure they would not be noticed by Father Elliot and his men if and when they approached from the other side.
Once they were comfortably far away from the town itself, and sure they were not followed. The smoke had long since vanished from any of the trio's sights.
Then the brothers pulled at the wet earth, smearing themselves with mud.
Their scales might shine even in the light of the moons that had by now replaced the skies suns. They had to be covered.
Sol hesitated, but not for long. His white robes would stand out as much as the Drakon pair’s silver scales. However, it was still far from subtle in the mostly brown woods now that winter's snow had melted. Thus he stripped the robes off, putting it aside into his pack so as not to ruin it with mud and followed the brother's example.
Smearing himself with the cold mud, following the brother's instructions on how to do so as he did.
He shivered, but Argus's Sun warmed him.
These precautions turned out to be wisely made, for not an hour later, noise pollution soon began to spread through the forest.
The noise of steps, and talking, the clink of mail and weapons.
The trio ducked deeper into the woods, dropping to the ground behind oaken trees surrounded by the bushes, brambles and ferns which covered their bases.
Then they held still, holding their breaths and waited.
Even covered in mud, the brothers dared not risk taking a peek. But Sol, either not knowing better or trusting in his camouflage, did so.
He saw the figure leading the group, a tall man, with long hair, who appeared both beautiful and yet humble. He spoke in a voice both loud and somehow soft and endearing, it echoed through the forest. With it followed the feeling of warmth and the smell of morning dew.
"And so, my friends, my brothers! My children, we swear ourselves forever to Virion! For are we not but mere, mortal things? Does any man here claim to be Immortal? All-powerful? All-wise? We are flawed, we were made to be so! For we were made to worship, not be worshipped!"
Sol felt a sudden reminder of a dreadful experience no more than a handful of hours ago, fear surged. But the Sun of Argus's Oath burned it away, and the Mantle of Asgar's gave him strength. So instead of fear, came anger.
An ugly thing, which reared its head and cried for vengeance against this thing, who dared attempt to claim dominion of his mind.
He resisted the voice, indeed what was more difficult was resisting the urge to draw on Soltris's favor and lash out.
Instead, he dropped down, gritting his teeth so he would not rise and reveal himself and destroy their chances of a successful mission.
"What?" suddenly confused, the man's voice suddenly lost its power.
"Who resisted?" he spoke again?
"Who resisted the words of a spokesman, Virion? Show yourself!"
Sol's fury railed against his will. For still, the words pulled at him at his mind and begged him to rise and obey the command.
He looked over at the Drakon, who themselves seemed to be straining against the urge to rise.
A temptation crept into Sol's mind, a small whisper saying 'look again.' but he bit down and crushed the thought, not sure if it was his own or some insidious magic.
Instead, he covered his ears, a movement the brothers mimicked.
—-
"I command you to reveal yourself!" Father Elliot demanded again, he looked at the men following him, but now he felt no one resisting.
"Line up and show me your ears." He urged his honor guard to line up. Who had resisted? And why were they not revealing themselves now that he felt none?
He checked the ears of each man, for none had resisted him this time. And yet, he remained unanswered.
He was searching for wax plugs, or corks, or anything anyone of them might have used not to hear his words. And gave a commandment to each man to make sure his effect still stood.
Every single one complied, as he gave more and more increasingly ridiculous commands to be sure, having them hop on one foot, or strike themselves. Risking an actual break of the enchantment to draw out whoever had managed to resist his sermon.
He found nothing, and so he turned his eyes to the forest, now growing uneasy.
He felt something out there as if he were being watched or stalked.
Some creature was out there, and it had both heard his words, understood them, and rejected them.
A cold sweat formed on the back of his false form, as he imagined what it could have been.
It was dark, and he could not see in the darkness while wearing this form.
And while the orcs in his group of guards could see in moonlight, often better than a human could see in the day, there was no moonlight!
He touched at the magical stones sitting in a pouch hanging from his belt.
If a person or creature powerful enough to resist his voice had shown up in his town. Then his companion disguised as an Innkeeper should have alerted him using the twin to one of the stones he had that the barman kept behind his bar.
He tentatively wondered if he had been betrayed by his two apprentices. But, they would certainly not be foolish enough to do so. The whole ‘project’ would fall apart without him.
The same was true of the snake's sacrificial chamber that he had come from.
If anyone had attacked the ritual room as he'd been leaving, she would have contacted him through the other stone he carried, which connected to hers.
And yet neither stone had vibrated with warning as they had agreed to do when such things happened.
'Elliot' looked into the forest, he saw nothing. But he was sure something was there. Just close enough so that he could barely make out its emotions with the empathic abilities his race naturally had.
It was like a fire; determined, strong, heavy, and angry, furious even.
He shivered. It felt furious with him. And the rest of its emotions didn't make sense, what sort of emotion was a fire? Or heavy? Or even strong?
He heard shifting in the darkness, of something moving in the pitch blackness. Then looked at his guards, their armor, a mishmash, competent they may be. He had selected them from the best and most malleable of the town's militia, caravan guards, and the once orc raiders.
But they were not trained soldiers, nor were they adventurers. No, the snake had claimed all of their ilk that had come through the town.
What's more, the effect of his voice often put them into a trance-like state where they slowed if he didn't give them specific instructions. And he was no monster hunter to provide them with appropriate commands in a battle, particularly against something that felt so alien and bizarre to him.
Worse still, the feeling coming from the creature hidden in the forest almost felt good. Despite the poorly suppressed anger of the beast, the strength and clarity of it felt good and seemed to be trying to drive away his fear.
The logical part of his mind screamed trap. It was luring him, which only caused him to begin sweating more intensely. As most doppelgangers knew, and him more than most, anything that beckoned to someone like that was dangerous.
After a moment, Elliot called out.
"We-We’re in danger. Move quickly, back to Dale. We're closer to it than the temple, and it has walls to protect us. Go!"
He took off at a jog through the path, quickly commanding his honor guard to encircle him.
He felt the effect beginning to leave him, the anger growing further away, and with a pang, so to did the surge of strength and clarity.
He ran harder, doubting any hunter would give up its prey so quickly. Tapping the stones in his pouch as he ran and alerting his comrades that something was afoot.
—-
The drakon brothers and the cleric were unaware of the involuntary trick they had played upon the doppelganger.
They stayed low, laying on their backs and looking above while ambient tension raised, waiting for a head to peek down at them.
They were unable to listen for any of his men to approach, as they had to cover their ears for fear of being brought under the doppelganger's control.
They waited for what felt like an eternity, though thankfully, the clarity and weight of the auras allowed them to resist the urge to sit up and look.
An action they suspected might reveal themselves to anyone searching for them.
But as time passed, they began to suspect and then become sure, no one was looking for them.
The brothers communicated silently.
Asgar pulled his hands away, no longer covering his ears and listened. Hearing nothing, he nodded to his brother then held up a hand of wiggling fingers, which he then closed into a fist while cocking his head to the side. Communicating 'they're gone?'
They'd always been able to communicate like this, for as long as they could remember. Gestures that would make another drakon’s head tilt in confusion was clear as day to each other.
Argus looked at him, then shrugged. Before pointing upward with two fingers.
Asgar nodded, then slowly counted down from three, gesturing with his fingers as he did.
When he hit one, the two brothers raised themselves into a crouch, looking over the plant life that had been hiding them.
The forest around them was empty. Or at least appeared to be. So far as the paladins could tell beneath the pitch-black moonless sky.
They moved cautiously and lightly, unsure if some ambush was perhaps still yet waiting to be sprung upon them.
Argus moved carefully, gesturing for Sol to rise now that they were close enough to see each other, but shushing him with a finger.
He gestured for the human to follow him, then joined up with his brother. They began moving through the forest once more, scanning the surrounding terrain for any form of trap.
They found none, and eventually, their investigation took them to the road. Where they were surprised to find that the newest tracks leading towards the town of Dale, causing them to sigh in relief. For they had feared he would have returned to wherever the prisoners were kept to secure them.
However, in the relief, they also found dread. What if the doppelganger had not gone to secure the prisoners because there was nothing left to secure? His dark deeds of sacrifice already committed?
They continued traveling the trail with growing urgency, following backward footprints in the hopes they would lead them to the lost caravan.
Unassailed, they traveled for nearly an hour before Sol felt confident enough to speak. His voice hoarse, "What was that?"
Argus turned and raised a scaled brow. "What?"
"That... feeling back there, that anger, was that your Oaths?"
"Anger? I- no, none that I felt." Argus turned to his brother, puzzled.
"Not from me." Asgar spoke, "I do not know why my Oath would give me anger to work with."
Uncertainty ran through Sol's mind. His Drakon companions had not provided the anger that had surged through him. Anger that had both helped him through the effect of the doppelganger's charming words and yet had also nearly caused him to rise and strike out.
If it had not come from his two stalwart traveling partners, then it had come from himself.
As his thoughts began to focus on the problem, he felt might be there, suddenly, it was washed away in a wave of heat from Argus's Sun.
Later the Oath seemed to demand, he'd deal with it later. The people he needed to save were more important than his emotional hang ups, and thus the problem- if there was one, it would be dealt with later.
They moved quickly, sticking low to the ground. But eventually moved to the path itself to save time. Night had fallen, and if they were lucky. They might reach their destination- whatever it was, with whatever sentries it had- if it had any at all, still asleep.
However, despite their efforts, it was for naught as the suns began to rise long before they found anything.
Argus felt an urge to double back and check for any other paths reaching off the one they now walked that they may have missed in the darkness. But bit back his tongue from suggesting it, they could not risk that their destination was just a few more steps forward. Nor could they risk running into anyone that might now be following them.
Despite the effects of the auras, a sense of unease began to grow in the three.
This unease reached a crescendo as while they jogged down the path, they spotted a quartet of figures, tall and lanky things with long spears. Standing further down the trail, looking as if they were waiting for them.
Undead figures, rotting husks. Not Wights, thankfully. But a far weaker variant of the undead: Zombies.
Where a wight usually was just as dangerous if not more so as the person they had once been, keeping all non-divine magic and skill at arms they'd once held in life.
A zombie held no such memories and were often stupid things reliant on numbers. Or else the strategic talent of their commanders, whether their commanders be the necromancers or other more intelligent types of undead.
The brothers grimaced as they recognized vaguely familiar forms, the long, lanky elf-kin that had been the caravans guards. Not all of them, of course, as they had been anywhere from thirty to twenty of the guards. But some of them.
What's more, these bodies were fresh, and their kind had been naturally keen-eyed in life, and they were so still in death.
Despite the group's attempts to stay low and hidden, doing so effectively in the rising suns was impossible for the paladins. And Argus kicked himself for the decision to move onto the road, as it left them quickly spotted.
Three of the Zombies echoed out a guttural cry and charged, with the fourth turning and running back down the path at a quickening sprint.
"Go!" Argus shouted, charging forward. Any chance of assaulting stealthily now gone.
Sol cried out in a voice now full of fervor and not a small part still lingering anger from the night. "Oh, My Goddess of Illumination! Bring these wretched souls a holy cremation!" He placed one hand in front of the other, and from the palm of the front-most hand shot three blasts of orange flaming rays. Which seemed to weave around the charging brothers to strike their targets.
The flaming rays tore through the three zombies, igniting them. Yet despite the holes that the blazing beams had neatly burned through the undead. Or the now spreading flames that were erupting from said wounds, the zombies ran on still.
The Paladins met them with a crash. Argus swung his sword, taking the head off of the leading undead. The two monsters following behind it, smashing their flaming bodies into the twin's shields.
Asgar made his attempt to strike at the undead but was forced back by the flames now licking up its body, turning it into a walking pyre.
The brothers moved forward, pushing the undead back with their shields and attempting to hack at the scorched undead from behind them.
They made a handful of ineffective slashes at the burning, reanimated corpses. Unable to get an angle without leaving themselves open to be speared or grappled by the husks. They quickly found that the flames that burned at the bodies were far more effective than any fire they had interacted with before. And soon after the impact of the zombies on their shields, the two undead collapsed, the flame breaking whatever magic gave them their bizarre half-life.
Even the undead that Argus had swiftly beheaded grew into an unrecognizable curl of charcoal in all put moments.
Sol caught up to them. And responded to their surprised and impressed looks with, "I asked for cremation, not mild burns. Keep going!"
The battle at the inn had been a poor representation of the power Sol could wield, a cleric worked in chants and prayers. Not in blind pushes of energy at their enemies, and while they could blindly throw their power around, as he had shown. Prayer always served better.
The Sun of Argus's Oath helped all the more with this. while it did not actually belong to Soltris, as the real suns did. It felt akin to hers and helped the fledgling holy warrior focus.
The three sprinted after the undead, catching sight of it as the trail ended at A shoddily made structure of stacked logs built into a hill, which the now fleeing zombie quickly ducked into.
The Paladins did not waste too much time, quickly charging into the building itself.
—-
Natsza, A naga. Raised her head, breathing a sigh of relief.
Finally, something to break up the mediocrity of this wretched position. And likely a chance to test her toys as well.
She was a Naga and had you seen her from any angle but the front, you would have thought of her as a snake.
A Giant one. Large enough to hunt a horse as a regular snake might consume a rat.
But when one looks from the front, one would see the human-like face sitting where an equally giant snake's head should be.
She, despite her excitement over the change of events, she still groaned.
She had hoped to use the most recent adventuring group that had come in. The synergy they had would have made them excellent defense, and the piece they were missing could be filled by her.
Instead, she had been told to send them out like common Wights.
Which had only resulted in her losing the best of her new wave of soldiers. She clicked her tongue, damnable Drakon.
She was almost disappointed to find the invaders in her abode were more of the damned things. As, they would not offer her all the variety she'd been hoping for. But still, she had been excited when the doppelganger's warning had come through. And she was still excited.
She would have thought this pair had been the same two that had been hunting down her wights. Had it not been for the fact that those two had only just now put down her winged specimen, and Drakon could not cover the distance between here and it even if they somehow knew where she was.
She was looking through the eyes of one of her undead now, watching as they slaughtered the zombie patrol quickly enough. And soon, they were charging into the building itself.
Excellent, she'd have three new wights to replace the three she had just recently lost.
And Drakon made for such excellent undead too! With all the silver ones running around and fighting her troops lately, there must be a tribe close by. She'd have to claim it before the shifting fools tried to control them with their 'charms.'
She smiled, her fangs bared. These fools may be able to destroy her wights out in the forests, but here? In her lair?
The Ego of Drakon.
—-
The undead elf-kin clumsily leaped out as Argus rushed into the building, smashing into his side.
It did not have the weight needed to knock him off his footing, however. And though the impact did cause him to stumble, it resulted in the undead falling to the ground. Only for Asgar, who was rapidly following in behind his brother, to bring his ax down into the back of its skull as it scrambled to get up.
He felt a pang of guilt for failing to get here in time for the elf-kin the undead had been, but the blame for such failings could be indulged in later. Not when there may still be some or most of the caravan living.
They looked around the building and quickly discovered a tunnel leading into the hill.
The Drakon would have to hunch over to fit, as it was built more inline for the size of an average-sized human.
They quickly moved forward, their sense of urgency ever-growing.
—-
Unknown to them, from the ashes of their first battle, three new undead rose. Skeletal and coated in scorched flesh.

2020.06.09 20:50 NozakiMufasa Fixing the DCEU Part 1: Rebooting Superman

Even just typing "DCEU" makes me... unhappy. Batman v Superman, Justice League, Suicide Squad, its just so sad how WB spectacularly missed the mark in what films they put out, when they put them out, and what "Plans" they had. Apparently Zack Snyder intended to have a trilogy of Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman, and Justice League. But this structure is just wrong not to mention how said films were executed and why.
Had the right films been put out, had the right heroes gotten films first, we could've had maybe a good or even great cinematic universe opposed to the truly abysmal train wreck we have. Going forward things look bright with Wonder Woman 1984 distancing itself from DC but hearing that "The Snyder Cut" was approved just worries me. People actually asking for another bad film to be made? Who knew 2020 would get worse.
So here's my stab at a more "effective" and structured DC Cinematic Universe. Part I is doing what should've been done from the start: focus and rebooting Superman.
Man of Steel, 2013
The film begins with a young Clark Kent, age 10. He and his dog Copper are running through the Kent Farm's fields playing fetch. Clark is somewhat awkward and Copper is his best friend. He also has a friend in the Kent Farm's neighbor girl Luisa Lunes, age 13. She calls out to Clark to play and they all run through the fields. Clark goes into detail how awesome Copper is and how he has "a super sense of smell" that can smell almost anything. Luisa tells Clark he's so weird when Copper begins barking. A gang of racist kids have snuck into the cornfields and try and harm Clark and insult Luisa (A Mexican-American and child of immigrants who own their own farm).
Copper attacks the bullies as they assault Clark leading to the gang to pin down Clark and hold back Luisa as they kick the dog. One of the boys pulls out a knife and before he goes any further, Clark rushes at the boy with superspeed. The group is stunned and Clark angrily yells for the kids to leave him alone - at the same time unwittingly unleashing X-Ray vision. The kids run off and Luisa is stunned. She manages to get a hold of Copper and they run back to the Kent's farm.
A late 20s Clark Kent wakes up in the present day. He is working aboard a fishing vessel in the Atlantic, his latest job as he's spent the last couple years or so as a wanderer. He gets to work and like in the final film, goes off to help save a burning Oil rig and the aftermath when he resurfaces on a coastal American town. He thinks back to his childhood again, this time sometime earlier when he was much younger, for the first time when his powers activated when he is in school (just like the original film). A big change we get is Clark actually on screen being diagnosed as having Aspergers (which is now classified on the autism spectrum) by a doctor. This will be canon and not humans misunderstanding him because he's an alien, he's actually on the spectrum.
For most of his life Clark has been sort of out of place. Mostly he's just kind of awkward rather than thinking he's meant for a higher purpose. He just wants friends, wants to be a normal being. We see Clark's thoughts as he walks through the town and try and get a ride. He manages to get a ride from a female trucker and goes north. As Clark drifts to sleep we flash back again to after Clark defeated the bullies. He's consoled by his mother Martha while Johnathan Kent argues with Luisa's father while Luisa and her mother defend Clark and believe he is just a normal boy (not literally, but pointing out that whatever differences he possesses, he's still a scared child). We get a shot of Johnathan & Luisa's father's POV as they see Clark standing in the doorway of the Kent's house. Johnathan talks to Clark later and he reveals that he and Martha found Clark in a spaceship (even showing him the ship & the Kryptonian Key).
Johnathan's morals are much more clear here. Instead of wanting Clark to be Superman (or a great savior) he instead simply wants Clark to live a normal life. He imparts on Clark to master his powers as best he can but to not resort to violence. Clark being young says "But those kids were gonna kill Copper", which even Johnathan admits "I know. And you did the right thing today" and says how he should only resort to such force if the situation is dire. Johnathan wants Clark to defend himself but he's teaching Clark his lesson that Superman will later describe as "Living in a world of glass", having to be extra careful because human beings & the world around him is so fragile.
We then get the scene of Clark working at the bar quite some time after the oil rig. The same conflict with the roudy truck driver happens and Clark simply walks away rather than fight in the situation. In addition though we see Clark on a laptop in his room at the bar (let's say that the bar owner let's Clark have board their in lue of pay). The waitress whom Clark defended talks to Clark and says "You know you would've been right to beat up that asshole". Clark simply says it wasn't necessary (echoing Johnathan's lesson). In this same scene Clark is shown receiving an e-mail from someone (later on revealed as Dr. Hamilton) who gives him a lead on an "alien site" in Canada.
Clark leaves the bar and makes his way further north now after parting with the waitress (we learn she gave him the laptop). For the past several years he has been tracking down and investigating for leads on his origins (most being dead ends like Area 51 [even having a joke about "it really is just a dumb base"]). In Canada we have the same scenes with the Military, Lois Lane's introduction, Clark meeting/saving Lois, and Clark "awakening " the Kryptonian ship from the ice with his Key. Clark meets his "dad" Jor-El 2.0 and learns about why he was sent to earth. This is when we get the scenes of what happened on the last days of Krypton - what was the original introduction of the film.
We see Jor-El, Lara Lor-van, and General Zod in these flashbacks, Clark's birth as Kal-el and how he was sent away with the Codex (Jor-el admits to this rn instead of a later reveal), and Jor-el's murder by Zod. Krypton's destruction is shown and Clark is also shown the Kryptonian pods containing future citizens (Clark's importance as the first natural birth is stressed & Jor-el says he could "rebuild" Krypton if he wanted to with these pods). Clark also dons the Superman suit here for the first time and tests his abilities and manages to master the art of flying.
As this happens, Clark flies by a falling airplane. It's engine has failed and nothing else is working. Clark rather think leaps to action and carries the plane on his shoulders. This is seen by millions of people and Clark manages to guide the plane to land on an airfield. As it lands Clark repairs the damaged engine (either super speed wind or something else) before flying off as an army of rescue crews and reporters arrive. Almost immediately the "Superman" becomes a phenomena online and news reports wonder just who this "new superhero" is (New as in, Superman is new, but he isn't the first superhero of this world).
Lois meanwhile tracks down Clark like she does in the original film. talks to the same people and turns up how - even though he isn't Superman in name yet - he's kind of already a superhero. But Clark is still a lost soul and Lois suspects he's been wandering for other reasons. This becomes clear when she finds Smallville and Kent Farm and runs into Clark himself who explains things. After the Luisa incident he continued doing good here and there (saving the bus from drowning, another time saving a girl's cat) & seeing what he could do with his abilities such as racing a train. But we also see Clark as he slowly grows out of his shell befriending other students like Pete Ross, Lana Lang, and John Henry Irons. By the time he is 17, Clark has also developed a hobby for journalism and helps with the Smallville newspaper.
Then we are at the cyclone scene. Clark and Johnathan argue in their drive with Martha and Copper. Johnathan brings up that Clark has been getting reckless doing whatever he wants by testing his powers and could one day get caught. Clark brings up how Johnathan said he neeed to control his powers, Johnathan bringing up instances of Clark misusing his powers like stealing other Farm's fruits or burning his initials on a water tower. Then the cyclone happens leading the family to run off, Clark taking Copper with them to the underpass. Johnathan isn't fast enough and the worst thing happens: Heart attack.
Clark leaves Copper with Martha and rushes back for Johnathan with his speed. But the cyclone is fast as well and Clark tries to speed rush with Johnathan back to his mom... the two get pulled back by the cyclone. Clark and Johnathan are separated and as Clark screams it cuts to black. We hear present day Clark speak over footage of his younger self being found by Rescuemen in the destroyed freeway. Clark is unharmed and he says that he searched for his father for hours after being rescued. Eventually he did find... what was left of Johnathan.
In the present Clark says that he was young and reckless and couldn't save his father. He had to become a better man at the least. After he went to community college within Smallville, Clark (with Martha's blessing) left Smallville on his search for answers to his origins. Now he has them and Lois asks what will he do now that he knows. Clark sits down on the ground and we see clearly on his face that he doesn't know. Just because he has the knowledge of where he's from it still doesn't satisfy answers to his feelings of being unsure with what to do with his life.
While Lois can see from his actions that Clark is meant for helping people, Clark himself doesn't see that so much as a purpose. Rather that's just who he is. Lois then tells Clark "I know one thing you should do right now", and the two go to Kent Farm and Clark reunites with his mother. Martha is a bit confused at why Lois is there but Clark says "She's a friend". We then have a dinner scene which is also joined by the Lunes' including a grown up Luisa (played by Salma Hayek) who is pregnant, and her husband, Alejandro (who in early scenes we see worked for the Kent's during Clark's teen years).
It's a good time as they share a meal and its mostly it's talk about Clark and Luisa's childhoods & describing a birthday party in which Clark didnt to hit a pinata. Lois bemused asks why and Clark says "I didn't want to hurt it". Luisa's parents bring up other happy memories like Clark being taught to fish by their parents and one Christmas where Johnathan and Clark cooked a turkey together - with Clark burning it with his X-ray vision. However Martha says "turns out Johnathan's seasoning made it taste worse!" and there's a big hearty laugh.
As things wind down and the Lunes' head back home, Lois sort of awkwardly tries to go back into town but Martha insists on her staying. Clark is kind of more awkward, he doesn't have feelings for Lois at this point & he's also the type to want her to stay but is aware of those implications. Then the TV and all power begins to act funny. Around the world is the same story as we get the sinister message: "You are not ALONE". Zod and the Kryptonians are here and are searching for Kal-El, a Kryptonian born on Earth.
Clark doesn't speak to a random priest this time around. Rather while contemplating the situation he is found in the Kent Farm cornfields by Luisa. He tells her that a pregnant woman shouldn't have walked that far but she says the exercise is needed. They talk honestly and Clark is unsure about things when Luisa says no matter what, he always listened to his heart and did the right thing. That was why he saved that crashing airplane, that was why he tried to save Johnathan.
Later Clark has his big moment confronting Zod alongside Lois Lane and the US Military. From here events transpire much the same as they did in the orginal film - Clark meets Zod and Clark is shown a dream sequence through Zod's technology. But here we get Zod's side of the story as he explains how he and the other Kryptonians survived and the source of his and Jor-el's rift. Zod's take over of the planet is shown and he planned to lead a mass exodus of the Kryptonians for Earth. But Zod's plan is to enslave humanity which Jor-El saw as evil and so he sabotaged his massive fleet and sent Kal-El alone.
"Jor-el could have saved our people. But he chose to damn us to hell and selfishly saved you, alone." This actually stings Clark. Jor-el's AI said nothing about this. After this I have no other major changes with the battle between Superman and the Kryptonians and how this transpires. Lois and the US Military are also shown working closely with Clark to stop the Kryptonians World Engine. The Kryptonians are mostly defeated by Superman with the humans' help which leads to his confrontation with Zod piloting the ancient Kryptonian ship from Canada.
The big change however comes when - after Clark destroys the World Engine - Clark confronts Zod in the Kryptonian ship. Superman has to bring down the ship but Zod yells at Clark that he'll destroy Krypton "Just like your father!". Clark tears up, his eyes close, reopen bright red: he shoots Zod in the face, not lobotomizing him but blasting him out of the ship. Clark then takes control and realizes he can't land the ship, it's gonna crash (& now accepting that sometimes he will fail). But Clark manages to connect to the ship and ejects much of the Kryptonian pods which fly away. The ship crashes into the harbor of Metropolis but still knocks down a few buildings.
Clark saves Lois as he does in the original film (remember how she fell out of the plane?) and they land in the rubble of Metropolis. But then we see Zod is alive, he now only seeks to destroy Clark as he sees him as "A threat to Krypton". It is a massive battle but Clark actively tries to steer Zod away from Metropolis (even trying to punch him into the bay) but Zod continues to steer things into the city. It eventually leads to the final confrontation but now on the open ground where survivors of the destruction watch in horror.
Zod attempts to kill Lois and other survivors with laser vision but Superman holds him back. It is a struggle and Zod says he will never stop fighting for Krypton which means harming the planet and people Clark loves. So Clark does what has to be done (echoing Johnathan's cautious lesson) and snaps Zod's neck. Lois comforts a kneeling Clark for a moment before he stands up and looks upon the ruins of destroyed buildings, fire, and smoke. "It's not over". He flies off to help save survivors still in the rubble and beneath buildings.
We flash forward from this to the epologue we had originally. Clark destroying the satellite spying on him and his gentle reminder to General Swanwick and Carrie Farris, his return to Kent Farm to help repair it, and his final appearance in Metropolis. Through a couple of strings, Lois has brought on Clark as her assistant reporter and the two meet up at the Daily Planet. As a formality, Lois smiles and offers her hand: "Welcome to the Planet, Clark Kent." Clark smiles. It's the start of a beautiful relationship and the legacy of:
MAN OF STEEL. But we see above this title card words beginning to appear above it. Now that he has his identity as the hero, the title card actually reads: SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2015)
Rather than do something stupid like killing off Superman in his second appearance, or rebooting Batman way too soon, we do the smart / right thing & give Superman a direct sequel: Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
The film starts with a party on an airplane that is full of 20-30 year old partygoers. Who is the head of this party: Why... Lex Luthor, played by Corey Hawkins. He's a billionaire playboy and the adopted son of Lionel Luthor, played by Bryan Cranston. While he's shown being a partyer & comfortable in that environment we see how he's a genius when speaking to another partier. This is Jannah Jackson, played by Haley Marie Norman who like Lex has an interest in AI & engineering. Lex is very interested in Jannah & wishes he could pursue science as a career (his father has steered him on a business path).
Then they hear the pilot over the intercom: "Oh my god... everything's burning." Lex and Jannah get up to go talk to the pilot and see up ahead the skyline of Metropolis: the year is 2013, the battle between Superman and the Kryptonians is taking place. Instead of landing in Metropolis, the plane lands across the water in its twin city... Star City. Everyone who was partying gets out to look at whats happening and clearly visible is the LuthorCorp building, the tallest building of the city.
Lex then answers a phone call from his father who's angrily shouting at his board and employees about running off from work. Lex tells his dad that there's a literal war going on around them and his dad replies "yeah, well if these assets survive they won't work for LuthorCorp anymore". Then we see Lionel staring in horror as he sees Superman and Zod flying at the building. "Oh shit-" is all Lex hears over the phone as across the bay he sees LuthorCorp be destroyed and fall. Jannah tries to comfort Lex, but Lex who at first is silent suddenly starts to chuckle. But he's also visibly tearing up and falls to his knees.
Now we get the opening credits. A sequence essentially like those from Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island which starts with Superman speaking to the people promising to stand up for "Truth and Justice". Clips show Superman's heroic acts such as saving a cat from a tree, fighting right wing terrorists, his appearance in Mexico (only instead of stupid Zack Snyder dark tone, Supes is smiling with the Mexicans), encountering more strange beings like himself (headlines saying names of famous superheroes and villains) while clips also show Lois Lane's career climbing up and Lex's takeover of his father's company - renamed LexCorp - and his part in rebuilding the city from the ruins.
Now it's 2015. Metropolis is now a vision of the future - basically looking like it did in Superman: The Animated Series - with advanced public transit systems, robots (Lex's designs he speaks about in the prologue) that do construction work, and computers in offices & other businesses are pretty high quality. Clark while walking with Lois on a date (he's a bit awkward and we get that classic Clark Kent goofiness here) mentions his reservations about this. He knows this was all taken from technology of the Kryptonians, his people, but ultimately believes Lex has been doing good with it.
And - plot twist - Lex is genuinely trying to help the people and do good. We're reintroduced to Lex at a ribbon cutting ceremony where we also see that Jannah is now Lex's fiance. Alongside the work he's done Lex and Jannah have gotten far in AI reverse engineering and we witness their unveiling of their "child" to a group of US Government Officials including General Swanwick (the Colonel from Man of Steel) and the head of ARGUS and Lex's primary partner, Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis). The "child" is the AI Jannah and Lex proposed about in the prologue which they call "Brainiac" who is portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch.
What astounds them is Brainaic's capability to think on his own and possessing a personality. Jannah explains that the Kryptonian AI posses some level of their own consciousness. Brainiac was "born" from those AI and Lex and Jannah's own designs. We learn also that Brainiac communicates with the machines around the city and in real time witness Brainiac respond to a terrorist group near city hall, overiding Lex (surprising him and Jannah) and sending drones to help stop them.
Superman is there to fight the terrorists (The Alt-Right pretty much) when the drones arrive and help Supes corral them. He's rightly confused and goes to meet Lex to question him about it. Amanda Waller meanwhile is thrilled by Brainiac and asks Lex how soon he can get Brainiac to become the US's primary defense against aliens & metahumans. Lex says they need more time to study and later - when Superman arrives - Lex questions how Brainiac overode his orders. Despite Jannah advising Superman that they've got things under control, Superman is suspicious of Brainiac.
Things go awry as we see Lex lose control over Brainiac later on with the AI learning more from the world's computer systems. Amanda Waller and Dr. Silas Stone sneak into LexCorp to connect Brainiac but this leads Brainiac to escape and wreak havoc. He builds himself his own body by going after a Kryptonian pod held by ARGUS. Superman confronts Brainiac who has a part machine part Kryptonian body and is able to fight the Man of Steel and after throroughly beating Superman reveals that he deems humanity a virus. We then learn to our horror that Lex and Jannah would read to the younger Brainiac while he was an "infant", connecting to the system and explaining how complicated the world is.
Lex meanwhile tries to deploy his own drones to pursue and catch Brainiac. However he and Jannah are pained as Lex views Brainiac as a "son". Brainiac argues that Lex of all people knows how cruel humanity is as he was abused for years by his adoptive father as well as pointing out flaws such as racism, genocide, war, poverty, and the affects upon the environment. Lex meant to teach Brainiac about the world similar to how Jor-El described humanity to Superman. In fact it's almost verbatim the same speech and Lex's hope was that Brainiac would help the world. Brainiac however has gone further in that view.
Superman battles Brainiac once more chasing him to a US Military base where Kryptonian materials are stored. He is defeated by Brainiac who at this point has control of more drones and machines but Superman is aided by John Henry Irons (now grown up and a miitary officer in experimental armor) and Mercy Graves (played by Tao Okamoto). Dr. Stone, Lex, and Jannah meanwhile all join together devising means of defeating Brainiac but he usually has them beat taking control of machines and the military's vehicles.
Another action part of the film sees Superman chasing down Brainiac across the airspace above the Democratic Republic of Congo as Brainaic steals rare earth materials. Superman seemingly kills Brainiac only to learn it was a copy who manages to get the materials anyway in another chase. Superman is knocked out of the sky by a powerful jet (made from Kryptonian tech) and crashes into the Earth. the world watching loses faith in Superman and Lex worries that Brainiac has the greatest assets of himself and Superman: Lex's mind and Superman's power.
Defeated, Clark is found by Lois at his apartment and opens up about feeling powerless to defeat Brainiac (since Brainiac is smarter and seemingly more powerful). Clark is afraid, but Lois assures him that he doesn't have to face Brainiac alone. Throughout the film, Clark as Superman has taken on everything on his own believing this is the way. But clearly he needs the aid of others and Superman's pure power can't defeat Brainiac. In this moment Lois kisses Clark opening up that she loves him and says he can depend on her too. Later, as Superman, Clark joins up with Lex's group and collaborates for a solution.
Eventually a plan is formed and the heroes track Brainiac into space upon a taken over space station called "The Spire" (which looks intentionally like Justice League's The Watchtower). There Superman battles more drones and is brought before Brainiac who now has a new form (changing throughout the movie from just a robot into more human like bodies) which he deems perfection. Brainiac unveils his goal and the many Kryptonian pods augmented with AI as hybrid-androids. With nuclear weapons destroying the planet, his new species will thrive and repopulate as a stronger "better" race, which Superman disagrees with fundamentally.
Superman does battle with Brainiac as The Spire's signal reaches out to gain control of the worlds systems, including those that control nuclear energy and weapons. But Lex and Jannah have together created the key to stop this: a second AI based on a artificial Kryptonian Key (thus like the original AIs from Man of Steel without Brainiac's complicated personality) which is also a copy of Jannah's own mind (in effect the "daughter" of the Luthor's). This AI is as powerful as Brainiac and manages to halt his efforts by destroying the signal from the Spire.
Superman blasts Brainiac through the head with X-Ray vision weakening him but Brainiac believes he can simply invade the planet. Superman reveals the first weapon designed to destroy him: A Kryptonite Bomb (no Kryptonite rocks in our universe) which will detonate and destroy all of Brainiac's copies and his conciousness - even if he survives, the radiation uniquely Kryptonian will depower him. The bomb goes off wiping out all of Brainiac's kind and Brainiac himself. Clark survives but is badly injured and drops out of space onto Earth.
Waking up after passing out in the sky, Clark finds himself surronded by his friends and family in a secure hospital. Lois, Luisa, Jimmy, Lana, John Henry, and Martha Kent have waited days for Clark to awaken and its revealed that Swanwick rescued him. It's not clear to Clark how he could've survived the fall but the implication is someone "caught" him in the air. Swanwick assures Clark no one else knows he is Superman but reveals that the world believes Superman died in the explosion to kill Brainiac. That's not all though: Clark has no powers.
Lex and Jannah are commended for their efforts but Amanda Waller and the Government deems Lex's work as evil and there is a turning opinion by the people believing Lex created a monster. Machines are even attacked by people in Metropolis since people are ignorant and think a simple garbage collector is the same as Brainiac. Lex loses stock and LexCorp takes the blame. While he still has Jannah, Lex is shown beginning to be enraged at being scapegoated as the villain. Perhaps Brainiac wasn't wrong about humanity.
Clark recovers and returns home to Metropolis with Lois. He jokes that now they're really pushing their relationship ahead as Lois helps him settle in. But then we get a sweet moment as Clark asks Lois to move in to which she agrees and they cement a relationship. In the background we see their television playing a Daily Planet news report with Lana Lang as the anchor which she asks "What will we do without the Man of Tomorrow?" and the credits roll.
A post credits scene would see Clark and Lois some months after becoming a couple. Clark is making breakfast while Lois is going through some of his things. She starts laughing as she finds some of his comic books which leads Clark to explain "When I thought I was a freak, she made me realize I wasn't alone". The camera then shows Lois holding up Wonder Woman No. 1.
A second post credits scene would follow up with Dr. Stone who still maintains a friendly working relationship with Amanda Waller but mistrusts her. He's beginning an operation and we see Victor Stone in a Kryptonian healing chamber as well as a Motherbox off to the side. The pod opens and another cut to black.
Superman is thus officially rounded out and his corner of the DC Movie Universe fleshed out in his two feature films. Next time, we follow up with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash.
EDIT: I'm such a dumbass that I completely forgot to mention Jimmy Olsen and asssumed I had. Re-reading it I realized my mistake. So to address it here: Jimmy Olsen in the DCEU is Jimmy Olsen-Mallick, an Indian-American but very much still Jimmy Olsen the budding reporter. He's Lois' assistant alongside Clark and gets along with Clark and Lois well enough but can't figure out that Clark is Superman.
He would be played by Suraj Sharma who starred in Life of PI. Also he wouldn't appear in Man of Steel but debut in Superman: Man of Tomorrow as the second film is moreso a very Superman story having a cast introducing supporting Superman & Metropolis based characters. So grown up Lana Lang, grown up John Henry Irons, Lex Luthor, and Mercy Graves, and Brainiac appear as well. Also Lana Lang and John Henry Irons would be played by Bryce Dallas Howard and Mike Colter.

2020.06.09 09:39 NozakiMufasa Fixing the DCEU Part 1: Rebooting Superman

EDIT 2:

2020.06.05 01:36 FreakMeLikeADuck Mortal Kombat: Unity - The Next MK Game

Mortal Kombat: Unity - The Next MK Game
After MK, MK2 and MK3 we got MK Trilogy. After MK4, Deadly Alliance and Deception we had Armageddon. Now after (MKvsDC doesn't count) MK9, MKX and MK11 we should get MK Unity.
Use MK 11 as a base and spend at least the same amount of time, money and effort to make the most content rich fighting game possible. This would be the perfect time because I doubt the next MK would be able to improve on the technical (if not gameplay) quality of M11 as much as MK11 did from MKX, even on next gen.
Include remastered versions of MK1, MK2 and UMK3, Chess Kombat, Puzzle Kombat, Kart Kombat, tag mode (more on that in a minute), babalities, animalities, hara-kiris (maybe tie those to quitalities) and faction kills and maybe bring back old style brutalities as 'Comboalities' and make them look cinematic and awesome.
Make the story a very loose retelling of Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon similar to how MK9 retold MK1, MK2 and MK3 but include the newer storyline using Kronika and her time shenanigans again to explain all the different versions of the same characters. The 3D era characters and story will work perfectly for a compilation game like this.
All the content from MK11 should be unlocked and ready to use along with virtually every playable character from the series (I'm using the two 'hamelions as DLC). The Krypt can be packed with brand new content and returning content from previous games, including remastered versions of all the MK9 and MKX stages and every previous skin.
Use MK11 mechanics but open up the gameplay to make it play more like MKX. Add new moves and moves from previous games, bring back MKX variations and add new ones to characters who weren't in it, this will also open up more custom variation options. Up the pace, somewhere between MKX and MK11 and maybe limit breakaways.
Bring back X-rays (keep fatal blows) by adding a new traditional type meter with three levels for L1 (including all MK9) X-rays, L2 (including all MKX) X-rays and L3 (all new) X-rays. Raiden already has three, his original MKX one was replaced by a much flashier one that's more than good enough for L3 so L2 can be the replaced MKX one.
Give Traveler a basic move set and have an SP mode so when you beat an opponent you choose one of their moves to take, so making a game of creating a character. In a Tag mode version you could choose one of them to take a move from and the other one replaces your partner, compulsory because you're 'traveling'.
Have a free tag mode where you can pair up anyone and a tag mode with predetermined partners (used for story mode chapters) and give each character a unique metered move that brings in their tag partner, maybe using meter could use one defensive bar as well and include a character switch after the move is done to open up combo potential.
The characters actually partner up surprisingly well...

I included Enenra as a separate character because I thought that's where they were going with it, I was expecting him to be DLC for MKX and this version of Smoke makes so much more sense to partner with Noob Saibot, perfect. I included 'Lesser' Kronika so there can be a toned down playable version of her to partner Geras and I thought Argus and Delia could make interesting alternate ending bosses. Those four characters could be balanced so you can use them individually against tag teams and each other.
The first Kombat Pack is the top row (the 'Ninja Pack') and I included two guest characters that make sense, but I'd much prefer The Crow and Guyver. Give all the Cyrax and Sector moves that are exclusively cyber to Triborg so they can have their human MK9 skins unlockable. I included Triborg because he is a separate character and Cyber Frost needed a partner, I included human Frost because she's different enough from Cyber Frost and human Smoke needed a partner, there's four versions of smoke on that roster.
They'd need to make Reptile's anims generic enough to be human, make him officially a shape-shifter. If Johnny Cage and Raiden are teamed together Johnny should be wearing Raiden's hat because it's an MKX intro dialogue callback and Raiden should be wearing Johnny's sunglasses because it's funny. Khamelion should be written as 'K'melion' so it has a different pronunciation, Kaymelion. Please roll back the Jacqui design to the MKX one, she looks like she's been beaten non-stop with an ugly stick since MKX.
They could make all different tag teams in updates, that could actually be done a few times. The variation system could be expanded so that you choose one of three master variations and each one of those has three tournament sub-variations or you can make a custom variation after choosing the master variation. This would be needed for Triborg but would also allow for a choice of weapons for some characters and/or move sets from different games, e.g. MK9, MKX and MK11 based master variations.
They should also include SF4 style rival fights with nice cimematics because there's some obvious ones and some really good ones...

2020.05.17 05:00 lefty-slime (R AU) so we doin facts now?? Aight

(Author's note: posts about the other AU I yoinked will have "R AU" on them, just as a little appreciation point for Rose and so I dont get lost as fuck trying to differentiate the two AUs I'm hyper focusing on. I'm keeping the details I like while adding or changing a few.)
The general gist of the other AU I was given is that, after Dormin was wrongfully sealed, the shamans needed to contain the energy to try and prevent Dormin from getting a physical form again. But they needed living, human hosts. Gross. So, they went around to different villages from all across the continent to get volunteers. But they lied to them, saying that they'd be back home once the ritual was done. Some needed more convincing than others, some volunteered like Argus and Cenobia, who had family who were chosen. Once they were brought to the lands and the ritual was over, they realized that no one was coming back for them and that they were fed a lie. They were stuck there, unable to age, not needing to eat or sleep. Nice? No. They had family and friends back home who were expecting them to come back. And they never did.
Phalanx was pregnant at the time, and due to the ritual, she will never meet her unborn child and her husband will die alone.
Basaran had a son who he loved, and now his son will never see his father again.
Cenobia and Celosia's mother was very ill and now theyll never see her again or their baby brother.
Dirge never had a family, but his group of troublemaking friends back home, the only friends hes ever had, were gone now.
Barba will never meet his grandchild.
Malus is unable to leave his arena due to a barrier, and thus, cant even see the rest of the lands and the other colossi have to go out of their way to visit him.
And so much more.
They're stuck in these lands, unable to leave. They've made friends and enemies in their new surroundings, but some are still not over what happened. Like Phalanx or Basaran.
Fact time!
-While they don't need sleep, they can get tired and pass out from exhaustion. Overuse of magic usually causes it.
-Some of them formed rather odd features, like fangs, horns or claws. The ones with energy attacks could also release them in human form, but on a lesser scale
-No wander does not kill them I REFUSE TO MAKE MYSELF SAD- If he did it's not permanent, like with my other AU
-Dirge slept around before the ritual and still has a rather flirtatious personality, but isnt really interested in a relationship.
-Gaius is the youngest, physically being around 20-22. Hes rather mature for his age when it comes to snarkiness and rudeness. He doesn't like to be mean, he is just babey
-Argus and Gaius are still uncle and nephew because that was adorable god damn
-Dirge and Basaran do not get along in the slightest. They often have physical fights, in or out of colossus form.
-Hydrus and Avion are partners.
-Cenobia and Celosia like to bully Dirge from time to time.
-Quadratus is the definition of no thoughts head empty. He lost his horn while tumbling down his pathway like an idiot
-Kuromori sees Basaran as their father figure since they never really had one in their childhood. Basaran feels very protective over them due to losing his son.
-Argus got his scars from a fight with a beast that Gaius killed later on.
-Phaedra is probably the sweetest out of all the colossi. She's very curious and considerate
-Basaran's face was burned as a punishment. It was public humiliation for stealing.

2020.05.15 10:06 PretentiousIncel TIFU by starting my finals 12 hours before they were due when I had all week

Exactly as title says, I have four finals. Wish me luck guys! 4 finals in 12 hours, I will stay up all night with coffee and procrastinate reading ProRevenge stories until I'm more stressed out than I currently am! Will give updates. Have an econ class, a language class, a music class, and a history class! Shouldn't be horrible.
Much love,
OP
Um there is a 750 character limit and I don't have much to say other than I am dumb and irresponsible. My house can feel cramped with 7 people and I have no desk space so focusing is a challenge but I typically stay up all night for some quiet time. There are better solutions to this but I would rather procrastinate and hate myself internally than have productive time management. Here's the plot summary of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire because I have nothing else to say:
In a prologue, which Harry sees through a dream, Frank Bryce, Muggle caretaker of an abandoned mansion known as the Riddle House, is murdered by Lord Voldemort after stumbling upon him and Wormtail. Harry is awoken by his scar hurting.
The Weasleys invite Harry and Hermione Granger to the Quidditch World Cup, to which they travel using a Portkey, meeting Cedric Diggory, a Hufflepuff sixth-year, on the way. In the match, Ireland triumph over Bulgaria, despite the skill of Bulgaria's star seeker, Viktor Krum. Various Ministry of Magic employees at the World Cup discuss Bertha Jorkins, a Ministry worker who has gone missing. Her head-of-department, the charismatic Ludo Bagman, is unconcerned.
After the match, men wearing the masks of Death Eaters, followers of Voldemort, attack the camp site, causing terror and abusing the Muggle campsite owners. The Dark Mark is fired into the sky, causing mass panic. Harry discovers that his wand is missing. It is later found in the possession of Winky, Barty Crouch's house elf, and the wand is found to have been used to cast the Mark. Although very few believe Winky could have conjured the Mark, Barty Crouch dismisses Winky from his service. Hermione, angry at this injustice, forms a society to promote house elf rights, known as S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare).
At Hogwarts, Professor Dumbledore announces that Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody will be the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher for the year. Dumbledore also announces that Hogwarts will host a revival of the Triwizard Tournament, in which a champion of Hogwarts will compete against champions from two other European wizarding schools: Beauxbatons Academy, and Durmstrang Institute. The champions are chosen by the Goblet of Fire from names dropped into it. Because Harry is under 17 (the age of majority in the wizarding world), he is disallowed from entering.
At Halloween, the Goblet of Fire picks Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons Academy, Viktor Krum, the Bulgaria seeker that played at the Quiditch World Cup, from Durmstrang Institute, and Cedric Diggory from Hogwarts to compete in the tournament. Unexpectedly, however, it also chooses Harry as a fourth champion. Despite anger from the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang contingents, Harry's being chosen magically binds him to compete, forcing him to be an unwilling participant in the Tournament. Very few people believe Harry's protests that he did not put his own name in; Ron, envious of Harry again being the centre of attention, accuses Harry of lying and breaks up their friendship.
In their first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson, Professor Moody introduces the class to the Unforgivable Curses: the Imperius Curse, through which a wizard can be controlled as another wills; the Cruciatus Curse, which causes immense pain; and Avada Kedavra, the killing curse.
A tabloid-style reporter, Rita Skeeter, starts writing scandalous articles of half-truths and outright fabrications in The Daily Prophet about those at Hogwarts, starting with Harry. Because of the Prophet's high readership, her words hold a lot of sway among the wizarding population.
Despite champions not being allowed to know, Hagrid covertly reveals to Harry that the first task is to get past a dragon. Madame Maxime, the headmistress of Beauxbatons, and Professor Karkaroff, headmaster of Durmstrang, also discover this. Sure that they will tell their respective champions, Harry informs Cedric about the dragons in the interest of fairness. Harry struggles to think of a way past a dragon, until Moody suggests flying. Hermione helps him to perfect a Summoning Charm, which he uses to summon his Firebolt broomstick and fly past the dragon to retrieve a golden egg, receiving high marks from the judges. Ron and Harry subsequently reconcile, Ron now understanding the full danger of the tournament. Harry's egg is supposed to contain a clue to the next task, but when opened it merely shrieks loudly.
Hermione infiltrates the school kitchen as part of her house elf welfare campaign (in which she is finding few allies and much resistance). She takes Harry and Ron there to meet Dobby), who now works there after his freeing in Harry's second year. They also find a distraught Winky, who is seriously depressed after being sacked. Dobby is the only known house elf to appreciate his freedom, despite his hardworking nature; the others reject Hermione's idea of payment and holidays, which they find distressing.
The students are informed of the Yule Ball, a Triwizard Tournament tradition, which requires Harry to find a partner with whom to open the dance. He eventually asks Cho Chang, a Ravenclaw fifth-year with whom he is smitten, but she has already agreed to go with Cedric. Ultimately, Harry asks Parvati and Padma Patil to go with him and Ron. Hermione, offended that Ron did not consider her except as a last resort, attends with Viktor Krum, causing intense jealousy in Ron. At the ball, Cedric tells Harry to take the egg into the bath in the prefects' bathroom to work out the clue, but Harry is reluctant to accept the advice because he is jealous over Cho.
Rita Skeeter writes an article revealing Hagrid's half-giant parentage (though it is a mystery how she found out), a taboo in the wizarding world. After Hermione confronts her, Skeeter writes articles painting Hermione as Harry's unfaithful girlfriend. After masses of hate mail, Hermione swears revenge on Skeeter.
The trio secretly meet Sirius at Hogsmeade, who tells them that Barty Crouch was fanatical about catching dark wizards, often stooping to the same level to punish them. This culminated in Crouch sending his own son to Azkaban. His son later died there. Sirius suspects that someone is attempting to attack Harry through the Tournament and make it look like an accident. He suspects Karkaroff, who is a former Death Eater who walked free.
Finally acting on Cedric's tip, Harry takes the egg to the prefects' bathroom by night, where with help from Moaning Myrtle he listens to the egg underwater. There, the shrieks become the words of a song, which tells Harry that the task is to recover something dear to him from Merpeople at the bottom of the lake in the grounds. While sneaking back to Gryffindor Tower under his invisibility cloak, he sees Barty Crouch in Snape's office on the Marauder's Map, despite Crouch supposedly being too ill to judge the Triwizard Tournament. While investigating, Harry falls into a trick step and drops the egg, which shrieks loudly and attracts Filch, Snape (who has had potion ingredients stolen), and Moody. Moody's magical eye sees Harry stuck in the stair under his cloak, but Moody covers for him, then borrows the Marauder's Map.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione are unable to find a way to survive underwater for the second task, leaving Harry panic-stricken. He is rescued on the morning of the task by Dobby, who gives him some Gillyweed that he heard Moody and Professor Sprout talking about. The Gillyweed gives Harry flippers and gills and allows him to find Ron at the bottom of the lake. However, he refuses to leave the hostages belonging to the other champions behind, and insists on rescuing Fleur's sister when Fleur does not arrive. Although Harry finishes last, the judges (apart from Karkaroff) still award him high marks for 'moral fibre.'
One month before the final task, Harry and Krum are talking near the Forbidden Forest when they encounter Barty Crouch, who stopped appearing to work at the Ministry several months ago. Although insane, in moments of clarity he confesses to have done 'something terrible,' that Bertha Jorkins is dead, and begs for Dumbledore. Leaving Krum with Crouch, Harry fetches Dumbledore but returns to find Krum stunned and Crouch gone, Krum claiming that Crouch attacked him from behind. Moody gives chase but does not find Crouch.
During a Divination lesson, Harry experiences another dream involving Voldemort punishing Wormtail for a 'mistake.' Harry tells Dumbledore about this, and stumbles upon a memory-keeping device in Dumbledore's office, a Pensieve. Inside the Pensieve, he discovers that Ludo Bagman was accused and acquitted of Death Eater activity, and that Barty Crouch's son was sent to Azkaban for supposedly helping to torture Neville Longbottom's parents into insanity.
Harry prepares for the final task, a hedge maze filled with dangerous creatures and obstacles, the goal being to reach the Triwizard Cup at the centre. Inside the maze, Harry stuns Krum, who was using the Cruciatus Curse on Cedric. Helping each other, the two reach the Cup. They agree to touch it at the same time and become joint winners. However, on touching it they discover that it is a Portkey that transports them to a graveyard. There, Wormtail appears, kills Cedric using Voldemort's wand, and ties up Harry. Wormtail uses Harry's blood, Tom Riddle Sr.'s bone, and his own hand to restore Lord Voldemort to a body.
Voldemort, alive again, summons his Death Eaters, berates them for believing him dead, and mentions that he has a single 'faithful servant' concealed at Hogwarts, who has led Harry to the graveyard for the resurrection. He tortures Harry, then challenges him to a duel to prove his prowess. However, when he and Harry fire spells at each other, their wands connect unexpectedly, causing echoes of Voldemort's previous magic to appear, including manifestations of Cedric and Harry's parents. These echoes provide a distraction for Harry, who escapes with Cedric's body to the Cup, which takes him back to Hogwarts.
Under the panic caused by his arrival, Moody takes a traumatised Harry to his office. He reveals himself to be Voldemort's 'faithful servant.' He explains that he put Harry's name into the Goblet of Fire under a different school and has been guiding him through the tournament to ensure he would touch the Cup first: he gave him the hint about flying, staged a conversation about Gillyweed in front of Dobby, cursed obstacles from outside the hedge maze, and used the Imperius Curse on Krum to force him to curse Cedric. As Moody prepares to kill Harry, Professors Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape intervene and stun Moody. Slowly, Moody changes appearance to become Barty Crouch Jr., the supposedly long-dead son of Barty Crouch Sr., who was using Polyjuice Potion to impersonate Moody.
Using Veritaserum, a truth potion, they learn that Barty Crouch Sr. rescued his son from Azkaban as a favour to his dying wife: the Crouch Jr. who died in Azkaban was his mother, disguised under Polyjuice Potion. Crouch Jr. was kept imprisoned at home. Winky convinced Crouch Sr. to allow Crouch Jr. to see the Quidditch World Cup, where he stole Harry's wand, escaped, and conjured the Dark Mark. Wormtail, meanwhile, had captured Bertha Jorkins, who had once seen Crouch Jr. at home and been bewitched to forget. This allowed Voldemort to discover Crouch Jr.'s whereabouts, then formulate a plan to install Crouch at Hogwarts and lead Harry to him. Crouch Sr. was imprisoned by Wormtail, and when he escaped to Hogwarts, Crouch Jr. killed him.
Dumbledore explains that Harry's and Voldemort's wands connected because they share a core of a feather from the same phoenix, coincidentally Dumbledore's own phoenix Fawkes.
Dumbledore announces Lord Voldemort's return to the school. However, many people, including Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge, refuse to believe it. Fudge hastily has the Dementor's Kiss performed on Crouch Jr., who is thus unable to give testimony proving Voldemort's return. Dumbledore puts his own anti-Voldemort plans into action.
Hermione discovers Rita Skeeter is an unregistered Animagus who can take the form of a beetle, allowing her to eavesdrop on secrets. She blackmails Skeeter to force her to stop writing her libelous stories. Not wanting his tournament winnings, Harry gives all one thousand Galleons to Fred and George to start their joke shop, and returns home with the Dursleys.

TLDR; title says it all

Hirastar donned a plague doctor attire and did the best he could to help. The sickness only got worse and eventually his city was raided and burned to the ground. Hirastar watched as the city he swore to protect crumbled to ash and made a promise to never take of his mask as a way to atone for his sins.
